Issues such as mortality, grief, stress and overwhelm diminish our connection to others and restoration of freedom to live our lives.
I've lived in the PNW for 25 years via Miami and originally, from New York City. I received a BFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology and worked as a professional photographer. In Seattle, I worked for Microsoft and lead self-actualization seminars before earning a Masters in Existential Psychology from Seattle University, I practice Existential Integrative therapy and also study mindfulness and eastern philosophy. I'm interested in the ways these converge, how people construct meaning and how it relates to their as-lived experience; and how clients use this capacity to generate self-awareness and walk a new pathway forward.

I am a real human who has experienced struggle, big loss, and made life-changing mistakes and have grown (and continue to grow) in my own therapy and healing.
You are finally ready to start working on healing inner wounds. We can begin by getting curious about what your nervous system needs to feel safe and ready, using curiosity and compassion. This can create an instant softening of symptoms related to anxiety, PTSD or C-PTSD, and grief/loss. For couples in distress, you CAN engage with more thoughtful reflection and heal relational wounds in order to transform your relationship; And if there is ambivalence about your future together as a couple, I can help you choose a path forward using short-term Discernment Counseling.

When it comes to grief, depression, and end-of-life/caregiving, I help clients to see a way through it.
I believe what people need to be well in life is to feel heard, understood, and accepted for who they are. I provide this to my clients through active and reflective listening, powerful questioning to provoke deeper thinking about one's challenges, and manageable practices to help you understand your own thoughts and beliefs about your challenges. When struggling with challenging issues such as end-of-life, grief, and depression, life can feel heavy and unmanageable. Clarifying one's needs and values can be a good starting point for creating goals to work toward. Having measurable goals provides purpose when things seem hopeless.

I want to offer you more than scratching the surface, or putting a band-aid on your pain. Let's get to the root. This work is about you - how you relate to yourself and to me. It's about the pain that you've carried (consciously or unconsciously), the grief that has shaped you and the coping mechanisms and defenses that you have adopted in order to live your life. I will bring my curiosity and my awareness to your thoughts, your feelings, your behavior. Together we will get to know the true you.

I have treated many people with social anxiety, and am also a bereavement therapist.
As a clinical therapist, I help people who are struggling with feelings of anxiety, depression and loss. I teach my clients to practice what I call "the reverse golden rule": treat yourself as you would treat others! We are often so critical of ourselves, while with a friend we would be kind, supportive, compassionate. My 20+ years of experience have given me the tools to work using an eclectic approach that I tailor to each client. I offer a comfortable, safe environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings, where you can feel heard, understood and validated.

I work with children and adolescents struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, grief and loss, family changes, challenging peer relationships and the behaviors that can result from these issues. I have training and experience using Play Therapy and Sandplay, which employ children's natural way of communicating and learning, as well as other therapeutic modalities as appropriate to each individual. My approach is client centered and often non-directive, believing that when children experience emotional safety in a non-judgmental relationship, their inner wisdom naturally emerges to guide their learning, healing and growth.

Someone casually asked, “How are you?” when you were out running errands. You're tired of this empty question and a part of you wanted to tell the truth. Honestly, you're f-cking exhausted. Struggling to juggle your grief/anger about the current state of the world, the demands of work, your relationships, and self-care... while also trying to heal from trauma and break toxic generational cycles. It's a LOT. Instead, you answered, “I’m good. You?" This is your life now; pretending everything's fine while, deep down, you know you've got parts of yourself you still don't understand and negative patterns you're ready to leave behind.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
