You don’t have to be alone. Today, your journey to healing begins. I aim to know my client. This allows me to undertand their issues, their needs and their goals. I am fluent and can provide therapy in three languages fluently, English, Ilokano, Tagalog. I am trained in Eastern and Western approaches. I use evidenced based treatment interventions including but not limited to EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness Approach.

I graduated from a M.S. mental health counseling program at Eastern Washington University in 1995, got certified and ran a private practice in Seattle from 1995 through 2003. I worked in an outpatient community clinic, an inpatient psychiatric hospital, at retreat centers, and at a college counseling center until starting work on a PhD in Religious Studies and Psychology. I worked, studied, and lived in Europe, East Asia, and Africa before teaching 10 years at San Jose State University, so I am comfortable and confident working with very different sorts of people and I want everyone and anyone to feel welcome and at ease in my care.

The first step in the therapy process is building a therapeutic relationship based on trust and compassion. I offer a down to earth approach that recognizes your struggles and your strengths. Growth occurs when we believe that we are truly accepted for who we are right now. When this happens, we are better equipped to see what we may want to hold onto and what we may want to shift. I will think creatively with you as this process unfolds and provide a safe place for you to think, feel and construct meaning of your experiences.

My practice is about creating space... a relational space to be, to reflect, to see, to heal, and imagine anew. Life can often feel overwhelming or bring feelings of hopelessness, but our inner resources are often more than we are able to imagine in the moment of our distress. New strength and connection can be found in parts of yourself that have been cut off or neglected for various reasons. Often we need the presence of someone, like a therapist, who has the potential to reflect back who we are being and what we might be neglecting, in order to see ourselves more clearly and engage life and relationships more fully.

My areas of specialization are substance abuse recovery, couples counseling, trauma recovery and loss.
As a therapist, I believe in being genuine, respectful and empathetic. For a therapeutic relationship to develop, clients need to feel seen and understood. I strive to help my clients understand their own emotions, cope with difficult feelings, improve their relationships with themselves and the people they care about. Years ago, as a beginning therapist, I was influenced by research showing that the critical therapeutic element in psychotherapy, regardless of the discipline, was the relationship between the therapist and the client. Contemporary research confirms the importance of relationship in fostering therapeutic change.

There are moments in our lives when we know we're done; done with a job, a relationship, a belief system, a way of life. At these moments, there is a choice to be made - retreat and play it safe, or move forward into a new way of being? I am a woman who has chosen to be an "Edge Walker," an "Artist/Healer;" giving full expression to the "Wild Gypsy Woman" within me. If you are at a "done" moment in your life, and feel ready to break free of the chains that bind you, call me.

The world we live in is an ever changing and fast paced place that can often times add complexities to our lives, our relationships, our internal thoughts and emotions that we didn’t anticipate or were not ready for. In these times it can be helpful to seek therapy to have someone support your growth into the person you want to be in a respectful, empathetic, and judgment-free environment.

Are you feeling a little “off” lately? Down, anxious or unsure what comes next in life—especially after the last year or so? Perhaps relationships aren’t working out or problematic patterns you want to quit just keep popping up. Maybe you find yourself struggling with old wounds that need care and attention. Or it could be you just don’t feel like yourself and you’re not sure why.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
