I work with individuals who are noticing a change in themselves through life transition, relationship loss, grief symptoms, feeling sadness 'when everything seems fine.' I work with clients who are experiencing long established triggers and grief symptoms through gentleness, safety, and respect for defenses. I have faith in the natural tendency of humans to grow toward healing and integration of mind, body, and spirit.

I work with people who often feel a lack of connection with their life and what connection they do have doesn't always feel authentic or free in their expression. This can show up in diagnosis and symptoms such as anxiety, depression, OCD, dissociation, difficulty managing ADHD, and complex trauma. Many of my clients have experienced some kind of loss at an early age through either death, illness/hospitalization, divorce, or other means. Whatever kind of loss they experienced it may have resulted in a form of early parentification ie. a lot of independence and responsibility at a very young age.

The focus of my private practice is on parents who need support navigating the demands of parenting. These challenges can be related to a number of factors including parent mental health, a child with more challenging behaviors, difficulties between parents, and/or navigating the multiple daily demands parents experience.

Maybe you're tired of suffering from being bossed around by OCD or anxiety. Perhaps you’re in a painful life transition and feeling uncertain, afraid, or lost. I’m glad you’re here. If you feel hopeless, I believe things can get much better, one step at a time. Although it sure can feel this way, rather than viewing OCD or anxiety as a monster trying to torture us, I see it as a hypervigilant alert system whose aim is to keep us safe at all costs. Retraining that alert system can help us get unstuck, heal, and thrive. I never claim to have the answers for anyone’s life, but I love helping people find answers within themselves.

Currently full but can help match Deaf people to therapists. My approach is integrative and primarily informed by EMDR therapy. I prioritize remaining person-centered and trauma informed, which basically just means that our sessions are about you and what you want and that I avoid pathologizing behaviors and feelings that could be the result of a traumatic experience. I look at therapy through a social justice and anti-oppression lens. I believe counseling should offer a safe, non-judgmental opportunity to explore and discover a path to your own place of peace. For Deaf people, my VP # is (206) 829-5104.

I enjoy working with folks who feel overwhelmed and need help maintaining focus and help finding their way to rest. My focus is working with anxiety and traumas and helping clients navigate transitions in many areas in many forms and sizes. I use an approach that looks at how we exist in the world and examines suffering from a personal perspective, but also from a social justice, feminist and transformative justice perspective. I believe this is your time, space and story to tell. I work with plurals and systems and am often referred to clients from therapists who do not feel comfortable working with system folx.

Hello! My name is Monica and I'm on a journey to understand the connection between hope and healing. Lately, it feels like we're all plants that have been left out in the cold for far too long, and at times it feels like there is no way forward, no way to keep growing in the bitter winter chill. It is my hope, however, that together we can find a new way to grow, one that challenges our own assumptions, pushes us out of our comfort zone, and motivates us to work toward something better and brighter.

I believe that all persons have the basic right to be heard. We all have experiences that make us who we are, some of which we may need or wish to explore further or heal from. Together in counseling we can create a safe place to work toward agreed upon goals.

Individuals, couples and families are all seen as my ideal client. I typically see clients from the ages of 13 and up, but I do make some exceptions. Clients who are having difficulties with communicating their emotions, identifying their strengths and their core self, or having dysfunctional dyadic or family patterns are clients who I know I can help. Clients coming regularly and genuinely working with me to accomplish the goals we set out at the beginning of therapy are ideal. If you want to better yourself in any way, shape or form, I will be the person who will try my best to help you become the better self you aspire to be.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
