I wish to serve people of color and other marginalized groups who have experienced chronic oppression and injustices. I would love to work with individuals, couples and families who are ready to step into their power and reclaim their voice. I wish to serve those who are in need of healing and need assistance processing grief, loss, frustration and exhaustion from life's trials and adversities. Being a person of color poses many challenges in this country and seeking help from professionals who look or talk nothing like you makes it far more difficult. I see you and I'm here for you.

I am most interested in working with people who are wanting to more fully be themselves, who are wanting to face their feelings without depression or excessive anxiety and being themselves creatively and within relationships. I enjoy helping people to develop the resources to regulate their emotions and to tolerate the inevitable discomfort that comes with growth.

Changes in relationships and life circumstances can bring about challenging feelings. I see folx for individual, couples, and sex therapy to help people navigate: high couples conflict, communication issues, trauma, anxiety, avoidance, trust issues, shame, infidelity/betrayal, desire discrepancy, erectile dysfunction, sexual avoidance and more. My clients usually begin therapy feeling stuck and fed up of where they are and are looking to learn, change, and transition to a place where they are satisfied in their relationships and have greater clarity, confidence, and peace within themselves.

I strongly believe that we all have the capacity for actualization and fulfillment in our lives as engaged human beings who are full participants in the world. Helping others through this journey is the main focus of what I do in my practice. Often psychotherapy and counseling are used to simply address issues and problems. If we were to use a number score to describe our lives, they get us from being in the negative to zero. The problem goes away. But we can employ these same skills and methods to get us beyond that. Why not hit a two, or a five, or even a ten? For me, this is the big picture of what therapy can offer.

With 42 years as a therapist I can say that my passion and joy is sitting with couples and individuals who want more meaning and depth in their relationships. Spirit leads the way in my work. Watching couples light up when they understand how to "be present with curiosity in listening to their partner" adds spark to my day. Knowing that they are beginning to get the tools for change that grow inner confidence is what brings richness to my work and hope for them.

Whether you would like to: process trauma or burdens and possibly release them; grow towards less shame and more self-love; increase understanding of next steps that are most congruent and life-giving for your personal and or professional life; or discuss tools to support the most effective communication and relating in your relationships; all are welcome. I draw from more than 14 years in psychotherapy, education and spirituality; and I bring respect for all identities, histories, heritages and overall social locations including the path of immigrants, individuals with H-1B visas, refugees and asylum seekers.

Often, this work looks at our grief, losses, anxieties, transitions and uncertainties, and all the places of ourselves we are often afraid to go alone.
Every single person has seasons of struggle, phases of life where changes and stressors become too challenging to handle alone. Whether deep unresolved pain is coming to the surface once again and interfering with your day to day, or perhaps it’s a fight just to get through each day, regardless of where you are at in your own story, I believe we all need support and a little extra help to get through from time to time. I would be honored to walk with you through whatever you might be facing in the present moment.

Some problems life throws us are particularly tough. You've likely tried to figure things out on your own; maybe confided in those you are close to - both of which can be very helpful. But there are times when it is valuable to speak with someone who is objective and trained in these matters: to share issues of concern or confusion; with support, without judgement, uncomplicated by the needs or agendas of others. I offer a space to be curious and reflective together where the focus is solely on understanding and helping you. This can provide relief itself and build the trust necessary to identify and address your wished-for change.

I believe in the importance of feeling connected in relationships, to our environment, and to ourselves. Addressing the “here and now” that arises during therapy allows our sessions to adapt and work with the difficult emotions or thoughts that come up, in an environment that is judgment free and safe. I specialize in working with those who are experiencing anxiety, depression, agoraphobia, trauma, life transitions, self-esteem issues, grief and chronic pain, among other issues. I am LGBTQIA+, gender-affirming, and enjoy working with clients along the spectrum of neurodiversity and disability.

Issues I work with include: anxiety, depression, life-transitions, spiritual/existential concerns, challenges due to a non-dominant identity, grief and loss, relationship distress, and self-esteem.
For optimal mental health, it is vital for you to feel seen, understood, and appreciated. I offer a space where you can experience a calm, attentive, nonjudgmental presence as you explore your concerns. My approach involves working collaboratively with you to set goals, noting together what your strengths are and what might be keeping you stuck, and exploring tools, skills, and perspectives that might be useful to you. In our sessions I will show up with curiosity, compassion, and a bit of humor, and I will encourage you to do the same. We will do all of this within the context of a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship.

I have over 6 years of therapeutic experience working with children, teens, and adults with: depression, anxiety, relationship issues, difficult life transitions, PTSD, grief and loss, substance use addiction, LGBTQ issues, sexuality and gender, spirituality, high-functioning autism, and career direction.
I am currently accepting new clients. I understand therapy can be an old familiar friend to some or a new experience which can bring some anxiety and nervousness for others. Either way, if you are excited or nervous about therapy, I make sure our sessions are a safe place to express your thoughts and gain perspective around difficult life issues. My hope is for you to feel empowered to uncover your own sense of peace and wholeness and to know you do not have to do that alone.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
