Our mind supports us in so many ways. But from time to time our mind needs support just like the rest of our body. Events in our life may impact our mind. You might have just gotten some challenging health news, recently lost a loved one, or sometimes it’s something from your past that keeps popping up. Or it could be the day to day of witnessing sadness in the news. Regardless of the reason, your mind deserves the same care as the rest of your body. My specialties include trauma, grief, anxiety, and health conditions (including fertility journeys and perinatal care).

I look forward to accompanying you on your journey of self-realization, whether it focuses on the past, present, or future. All evolving individuals are faced with real-life challenges and tragedies that, at times, upend their sense of well-being, leave them in a position of loss and confusion, lacking hope for the future. Life is more than a set of goals, it is also a path of twists and turns that require you to manuver though obstacles in order to find your authentic self. Allow therapy to be the vessel you travel upon on your way to discovering what matters the most and how you can achieve your highest goals.

I have a passion for helping women and men who are facing anxiety, grief, and trauma so that they can get back to feeling like life is enjoyable again. I help my clients facilitate a journey of self discovery as we identify and uncover the root causes of their anxiety and work towards getting out of that trauma, anxiety loop and building new responses to situations causing anxiety. I help clients with grief, make space for their grief and honor their loved one in a way that feels authentic to now. I also help clients with trauma and PTSD re-establish safety in their own bodies and in their minds, while also reprocessing the trauma.

I have worked with individuals and couples primarily focused on the following issues: anxiety, grief/loss, relationship/attachment issues, life transitions, identity, PTSD, and difficulty managing emotions.
Sometimes we find ourselves in a place where we feel stuck or lost and have a sense of wanting to change the way things are. Therapy can help. I aim to provide you with a safe, compassionate, non-judgmental space where you can explore the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are distressing or overwhelming. Therapy is a collaborative process in which you gain greater insight into yourself, a better understanding of your strengths, and learn how to enact positive changes in your present life. I provide individual and couples therapy to adults of all backgrounds and experiences to clients based in NC or VA.

With 7 years of experience in the field of social work and more than a decade in coaching/mentoring, I specialize in working with youth, young adults, and athletes challenged by performance-based anxiety, generalized anxiety, depression, trauma, relational & self-esteem issues, grief, and life transitions.
The mind is the most powerful resource of the body. It is also, unfortunately, the least managed. It keeps a record of experiences and dictates emotions to us based on those experiences. What we think, feel, and believe impacts how we interact and perform. Often, more than we know. What I do is help facilitate mind and body realignment for the achievement of optimal performance in school, at work, and in personal lives. With an eclectic and flexible approach, I integrate mindfulness, motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy, self-reflection, and different holistic approaches to address your overall well-being.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
