I have extensive experience working with clients who struggle with eating disorders, depressive and anxiety disorders, chronic pain, grief and dementia.
I strongly believe my clients are the experts in their own lives and can experience healing and personal growth through regaining self-efficacy in their own abilities. My goals are to provide an empathetic, genuine, and constructive space for growth and healing. I utilize evidence-based modalities of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and motivational interviewing to assist clients in addressing negative thought patterns, gain acceptance towards themselves, and increase their tool box of helpful coping skills.

I primarily meet with adults as individual clients, although I also have experience working with adolescents and families. My ideal clients are goal-oriented and eager to gain insight into the dynamics and forces that are causing them discomfort. I have worked with individuals who have experienced depression, anxiety, immigration stress, past and current trauma, eating disorders, grief, pregnancy, issues with acculturation and identity formation, and the general stress of living and functioning in a world that is often unkind to folks of marginalized identities.

Welcome! I'm an integrative therapist and work with teens and adults experiencing challenges related to trauma, grief/loss, anxiety, depression, LGBTQIA2+ identities and relationships, and intercultural experiences and family dynamics. It can feel really hard and isolating to navigate these challenges alone, especially in a world in which we're experiencing so much pain, violence, and uncertainty about the future. Working with a therapist can create a caring, compassionate space in your life to explore your inner and outer worlds, nurture your resilience, and cultivate joy and healing.

I provide individual therapy to adults who are coping with various life circumstances including life stage transitions, grief, relationship stress, anxiety and depression.
Sometimes we think of our life as a story with a beginning, middle and end. But life rarely feels this simple and linear. Our experiences change the way we view ourselves and the world around us especially when we endure pain and loss; our identity shifts, and the story we've told gets tangled up. It is normal to become disoriented and scared when we feel ourselves changing. Maybe we seem more lonely, less fulfilled, or lost. I see it as my responsibility to be a partner/guide for you so you feel more oriented, less alone, more able to recognize your innate strengths and ability to heal and to ultimately author a story of growth.

Everyone experiences loss. Seldom do we allow ourselves to fully experience loss or it's impact. When someone dies, we change jobs, or even have a child, there is loss. When we choose to address these losses, past or present, we can begin to heal, and with healing comes unlimited possibility. I work with families/individuals/children and the impact family dynamics have on their lives; adoptees and their families as they deal their losses; bereaved individuals and groups after the death of a loved one; transitional loss and role adjustment included "empty nest"; corporate downsizing; career counseling; and relationship issues.

I have over 20 years experience in the field of grief and loss, difficult relationships, and traumatic brain injury.
Every person experiences challenging times in life and making the decision to seek professional counseling can be helpful. These last two years during the pandemic have been particularly hard and have magnified the things that may not be working in our lives. However, I believe, difficult life situations can lead to positive change. I view therapy as a collaborative approach where you, the client, set the goals and I, the therapist, guide you with my professional knowledge in finding solutions, feeling relief, and making a better life.

I work with those struggling with childhood trauma, PTSD, complex grief, depression, relationship issues.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Life Coach. My approach to therapy is to help clients identify, understand, and ultimately change the areas in their lives that have contributed to emotional and relationship pain. I deeply believe that to have the breakthrough we need in current relationships we must understand our history and how it profoundly colors and impacts us as adults. Once we learn to own our history, it no longer owns us.

Grief is a natural response to a bereavement or a loss of any kind, but the distress you understandably feel today need not be incapacitating or unnecessarily prolonged. My approach will help you come to terms with your new reality, while retaining a healthy and positive psychological relationship with the loved ones you have cherished, but who are now no longer physically present. We will work together to establish new strategies for living a fulfilling and joyful life - a life that can be continually enriched by the happy memories of times gone by. A life of gratitude, rather than regret.

I identify as an ethicist; a Womanist who advocates and practices feminist ideals, cultural humility through continuous learning, bodily integrity, reproductive justice, sex work is work, pacifism by utilizing non-violent resistance techniques. I believe children have rights, whistleblowers are vital in society, I embrace LGBTQ+, Black Lives Matter is factual, and representation matters. I practice mindfulness with the philosophy of ‘margin to center’ action. I embody, advocate, and support activism in action and respect of human rights. Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
