I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in Individual, Family, and Play Therapy with children, teens, and young adults. I have a passion working with children, young adults and families! I work with a variety of issues including behavioral issues at school or home, parenting and co-parenting skills, adjustment to life changes, anxiety, depression, and grief. My goal is to help children, teens, families, and young adults gain coping skills to manage hard to have emotions, deepen family relationships, and strengthen communication skills.

I'm a licensed professional counselor with over 12 years experience as a mental health therapist working in the San Antonio area. I received a Masters in Marriage & Family Therapy Degree from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas. My training and experience qualifies me to offer bilingual English-Spanish counseling for individuals, couples, children, families dealing with domestic abuse, child abuse, trauma, grief and loss, addictions, depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Also, I can assist with military specific challenges such as; pre-post deployment stressors, combat-related PTSD, stress management, life transitions, work/career related issues.

I use cognitive behavioral therapy to pin down problem areas in thinking that ultimately affect our relationships, self-worth, and perspective in an unhealthy way. A teenager with history of poor social skills, diagnosed with developmental delay, psychosis nos, anxiety issues and diagnosis of schizophrenia and Bipolar. Also depression and autism.This are the presenting issues that the teenager has to deal with throughout his/her life. Sometimes the teenager have a psychosis episode and sometimes on denial.

I am a bilingual Hispanic professional that has over 20 years of experience in social work, working with children in various settings primarily in school systems and in the juvenile justice system. I am currently embarking into a new journey of private practice. I have worked in the past with children and families on various mental health disorders such as Depression, Generalized Anxiety, and Bipolar to name a few. I have worked with individuals and with families doing solution focus and cognitive behavioral therapy.

There are moments in life when you feel stuck making life altering decisions, you are emotionally drained due to previous or present experiences, you worry about the future, or you feel grief due to a loss. It is these moments, and all in between, that create the pathways of your life. The realizations, epiphanies, or catalysts for change are often times not visible through a black and white perspective because of the intricacies of ourselves and our relation to others. Hey, I’m Tanya (she/her/hers). I graduated from Texas A&M in 2004 with a BS in Psychology. After graduation, I moved to Fort Worth where I attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and received a MA in Family and Marriage Counseling and a MA in Christian Education. Following graduation in 2007 I have been doing therapy and case management. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor- Supervisor (LPC-S) and a Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI)-practitioner. I have a passion for helping individuals and walking alongside them so they can become the person they have always wanted to be.
