As an international, transracial adoptee, I am passionate about helping other adoptees navigate their experiences with grief/loss, identity, and other adoption-related issues.
As a therapist, I practice a holistic approach because I believe all aspects of a client and their experiences are important in providing effective treatment. I have experience working with a wide range of clients of all ages and diagnoses. My goal for all of my clients is to build a relationship of mutual trust, respect, and communication, as well as a safe environment that fosters vulnerability and honesty. Based on individual nuances, I strive to incorporate principles and skills from various theoretical models, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Dialectic Behavioral Therapy.

I also have lots of experience with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationship problems, grief, assertiveness, adjusting to life's changes, stress management, spiritual direction, self-esteem and empowerment.
Our work together will be suited to your needs. That is, one client may choose talk therapy, whereas another prefers the hands-on approach of energy field healing, and a third opts to combine both of these approaches. Regardless of the mode of treatment, we are always aware that the whole person includes body, mind and spirit and so will involve and integrate them as much as possible. I use a variety of therapeutic techniques including cognitive, skill building, Gestalt, client-centered, guided imagery, inner child work, or energy healing depending on the needs and style of growth of the client.

I have advanced training in the treatment of attachment trauma, effects of childhood trauma in adulthood, & traumatic grief.
I work within a psychotherapy model that is called AEDP. AEDP is an approach to healing that starts with the premise that all symptoms are creative adaptations to painful or traumatic circumstances. We recognize the resilience underlying symptoms, as opposed to viewing symptoms as a pathological. AEDP is grounded in affective neuroscience and in psychotherapy research.

I see adults who struggle with anxiety, stress and/or relationship issues. I see people who are overwhelmed with grief, college adjustment or depression. I see people who are unable to move forward. Sometimes there is a single recent event that has triggered this problem. More often, there are other events from the past that have caused someone to become "stuck". My clients want to become "unstuck", to feel better, and to gain a more fulfilling daily life.

As both a thanatologist and certified grief counselor and a former hospice volunteer I find bereavement and end of life counseling is where I belong. It is humbling and gratifying; I am privileged to work with grieving a loss, both expected or traumatic, as well as spending the remaining months of an individual's life with them.I am also certified in complicated grief and hold a certificate in Psychological Autopsy autopsy. Moreover, I am a certified death doula.

Life rarely goes as planned. When you've been hit with a major life event, such as the loss of a loved one, an affair, or the birth of a child, you may experience fear, isolation, sadness, or anger. Although life changes can be a source of excitement and growth, they often bring up unresolved issues, including perfectionism, shame, and past trauma. If you want to be able to cope effectively with life's biggest transitions, you need a compassionate therapist who specializes in your area of need, so that you can find peace and joy in your life again.

Many of us experience trauma in our lifetime, and for some, several times across our life span. We often find ourselves with feelings of loss/grief, depression, and/or anxiety. It can leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves and the joys which were once our normal. Your feelings are valid and should be heard. There is a way forward

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
