Unhealthy relationships, external stressors, and past trauma can erode self-esteem and self-worth, leading to loss of identity, a sense of disconnection, or lack of fulfillment.
I help people who feel that something is missing, stuck, or unfulfilled. Emotional turmoil can diminish our well-being and quality of life. I support those who want to feel loved, respected, and connected with others, free from the fear of abandonment, and feel confident and empowered in themselves and their decisions. If you'd like to work towards a sense of inner peace and fulfillment in yourself and your relationships, I'm here to guide you on that journey.

I have worked with people for over 30 years in: Emergency Services, At-Risk Teens, Victims of Crime, Career Changes, and with survivors of grief.
The therapeutic experience should encourage one to live a more satisfying and meaningful life. Everyone has a unique journey through this world and the sum of the experiences along the way (good or bad) make us as individual. Sometimes we get lost, hit bumps, or even get overcome with a tidal wave of things that we need help getting back on our path or creating a new one.

Drawing from over three decades of people helping experience and supporting individuals through trauma, grief, and faith challenges, I will bring compassion and care to our sessions.
Often when we’re stuck, we feel as if we’ve run out of options; we don’t know how to move forward. Maybe you’re tired of living this way and you’re ready for things to be different. First of all, I want to commend you. Just by the fact you are here looking for a counselor, I want to acknowledge the amount of courage and energy that took. This says much about how ready you are for a change, and it makes me genuinely excited to work with you. Sometimes we’re too close to our own challenges to see what is getting in our way. This is where I can be helpful.

Something is just not right. Something needs to change and you're ready to do the work. Making changes creates challenges, and any great effort has the potential for unintentional and unexpected consequences: personal relationships, grief, anxiety, depression. I work with everyone wanting to take these steps, people who want to take accountability and collaborate on a path forward.

According to research by Dr. Lisa Miller of Columbia University, a healthy and robust Spiritual Life is one of the most effective ways to heal from and insulate oneself from the impact of depression. Same for substance abuse and suicidality. Tending to, nurturing, and supporting a healthy spiritual life in the context of coping with mental illness, change and loss, trauma, and other stressors is one of they most impactful actions one can take. For 20 years I have assisted and guided others in utilizing spiritual health for integrated healing in their lives, and I would be honored to journey with you.

By addressing troubling thoughts and feelings, self-sabotaging behaviors, and traumas, life can be made more manageable, productive, and fulfilling. Feelings such as grief, shame, anxiety, sadness, and anger often signal that something needs to change. Listening to and working with these feelings—some that consume us and others that gently nudge us—can move us forward. Through this, we sometimes discover that our everyday dilemmas are part of larger patterns waiting to be resolved as a whole.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
