Training in the areas of trauma and maternal mental health enables me to assist clients with perinatal anxiety and mood disorders, pregnancy loss, infertility, stressful birth experiences and difficulties in the transition to motherhood.
I work with women of all ages who experience anxiety, overwhelm and struggle to focus on their own needs. Problem areas may include becoming explosive or frustrated toward those you love and having difficulty changing your emotional reactions no matter how hard you try. You may feel like your life is not headed in the direction you would like it to go. Common concerns specific to women who have children include anger and rage, resentment, not feeling like yourself and feeling as though you can’t keep it together like “all the other moms.”

Throughout life we all face challenges. Whether it's life circumstances, unexpected or anticipated stress, traumatic events and loss, internal or relationship conflict, social or medical stressors, emotional pain and sadness, low self-worth, or family conflict, seeking help is a step towards feeling happier and at peace. Although we don't always have control of the events in our lives, we can choose how to handle them. I offer counseling services for children, tweens, adolescents, and adults.

Have you been thinking “I’m feeling really anxious/angry/numb lately” but do not know why? Do you have a difficult time explaining what you are thinking or feeling? Do you avoid "feelings" altogether? Regardless of life experience, all humans have faced adversity and often feel they need to hide their suffering. If you've been ignoring your pain, it has probably created some sort of "roadblock" in your life. I focus on helping my clients navigate through this. I ask you: What have you lost... and how did you honor that? Only when we acknowledge that we are hurt can we then begin to heal.

"The best way out is always through." You may have noticed the same painful themes keep replaying in your life but you can't seem to find the stop button. Your world is constantly moving & changing before you can even catch your breath. Perhaps you are experiencing conflict with a son, daughter, parent, or spouse and it is taking its toll on you. Maybe you have experiences that you don't quite understand or don't express for fear of being judged or deemed "insane". Maybe you just feel alone, misunderstood or lost. If so, I am here to help you.

We all encounter wounds from different phases of life, relationships and traumas. However, we aren’t always taught the tools that offer us resolution and healing. We are conditioned to be victimized by this pain rather than transforming it for a greater purpose. I believe when we integrate using our gifts towards life’s challenges and fully embrace the darkness within us, we can use it to our advantage, turning our pain into purpose.

If you're reading this, it means you have already taken the first step toward wellness: you've begun the search for the right therapist for you. In our first sessions, we’ll work to establish goals for treatment so that our later sessions can serve to deepen self-exploration into how we can meet those goals. My approach to psychotherapy is collaboration between myself and my client. Together, we work to transform pain into healing. I see my clients through not only a psychological lens, but through a social, and cultural understanding as well.

Sometimes we all need a little help. None of us have life all figured out! We all have distressing thoughts and feelings we need to work through. Relationship problems, anger, poor boundaries, mental illness, trauma, all add to daily stress. The good news is, strategies are available to change what isn't working, alter how we think, become mindful of our strengths, and increase our capacity to grow in different directions. For more than 16 years, helping clients grow and learn to live their best life and improve well-being with a variety of evidence-based strategies, has been my passion. Im grateful for the opportunity to assist!

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
