If you are struggling with the aftereffects of trauma, there is hope. People can and do recover. You may never forget what happened, but the trauma can lose its haunting power, and you can rebuild your life. For more than a decade, I have had the privilege of witnessing clients recover in the aftermath of life-threatening events, sexual violation, and devastating loss. My expertise is using brief, evidence-based psychotherapies to help people do just this.

I specialize in working with individuals who are struggling with grief and loss.
I am a supervising psychologist at Soho Psychology where I work with individual clients and teach and train other clinical staff. As a therapist I strive to understand and meet the unique individual needs of each of my clients. My belief that my clients are the experts on themselves, plays an integral part of the collaborative therapy process. I listen carefully and work to help my clients navigate difficult thoughts and emotions, overcome challenges, and gain insight into their lives. I find that developing a greater understanding of interpersonal relationships is often the key to an individual’s growth and healing.

As a Narrative Life Coach, I want to help clients unlock the themes and patterns of their lives by asking probing questions and helping them work towards their next chapters. I offer weekly optional writing exercises and readings to support this journey. Narrative Coaching works well with anyone going through a painful loss or rejection, such as a death, break-up or divorce, as well as anyone who desires change but feels stuck or struggling. I'd like to help clients to realize their potentials by exploring possibilities, expanding their thinking and re-writing their narrative.

Being human can be as amazing and rewarding as it can be challenging and confusing. Navigating experiences such as depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, relationship strains, and life transitions can be especially difficult when feeling stuck, alone, or misunderstood. I believe that upon looking deeply into these challenges, we actually stand to gain a great deal from them, and that having the right support in doing so can really make a difference. As an integrative psychotherapist, I am passionate about holding space for people to explore their full range of human experience and live more fulfilling lives.

Through my use of personal experiences, empathy, and humor, clients can feel understood when struggling with anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic illness, grief, life transitions, or relationship issues.
The most healing aspect of therapy is the unique relationship between a client and therapist. I value the vulnerability and mutual trust created with my clients when they allow me to be a part of their stories. You can expect to leave sessions feeling heard and empowered, with a renewed connection to self and/or the world.

My mission is to guide people through loss and trauma toward acceptance and healing. Therapy isn't a space where we "fix ourselves," but rather where we find ourselves in our pain and discover how strong we are in the process. Going to therapy is self-empowerment. It means making a conscious decision to start exploring and accepting all parts of self so that you can feel empowered to live your best life. As a clinician, I meet each client where they are, honor their individuality and unique life experience, and co-create a space where they can feel—and heal—trauma, loss, and grief.

What brings people to therapy is often some form of suffering. Many times this suffering is connected to a crisis such as divorce, illness, the death of a loved one, adjustment to a new culture or loss of employment. At other moments the reasons behind our suffering are not so clear. I believe that through psychotherapy we can learn to understand ourselves and become better able to embrace all that life has to offer. Each of us has a unique story and unless we figure out how to live it we cannot find the deepest meaning in our lives.

Grief is an emotion often reserved for the passing of someone meaningful to us, but it’s also a normal emotion in life transitions, like job loss, a ruptured relationship, a move, an accident, the death of a pet, illness, trauma or an empty nest. These experiences may leave you grieving the loss of an idea, an expectation of what your life looked like or where it was going. Loss has a way of isolating a person from others. You may feel pressure to be doing better than you are, or to be further along an arbitrary timeline. Well-intentioned comments that don’t meet you where you are can leave you feeling even more alone.

I look forward to working with individuals who are struggling with self-esteem issues, childhood/family trauma/s, relationship issues, grief, loss, illness, bi-cultural issues, anxiety, stress management needs, and/or substance use issues.
My work and approach are to live in the here and now of present issues, while looking to the future and resolving underlying struggles from former experiences, so as to help us realize and work through the parts of ourself that have been challenged and which continue to be so. My 28+ years of pre-/and post Master's psychodynamic work with direct client and patient clinical treatment, along with my ongoing experience as a Yoga Teacher, and REBT training, inform my style and approach in working with individuals who are invested in developing a healthy sense of self and achieving healthier life goals.

I work in addictions, chronic illness, mood disorders, stress, grief, relationship issues, workplace problems, transgender to name a few.
It is important to have physical and mental well-being.Therapy is a process of self discovery and healing. I believe in the process and help people understand that we do it together. It takes time to work on one's issues but I believe in the process of growth and positive change. I help people recognize that you have to love oneself , feel you deserve to be happier and do the work to make that happen.I believe that people are survivors and can overcome obstacles. I look up insurance benefits for patients and do all billing to lessen patient worry over this. I provide telehealth therapy for those who work from home or are disabled

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
