“What are we here for, if not for each other” ~ Siddiq. As a global crisis changes life as we know it, we are in uncharted territory. Discomfort, vulnerability, fear and anger are normal responses to an abnormal situation. You may be feeling alienated, anxious, isolated, frustrated, depressed, and stressed. Individually and as a society we are grieving the loss of what was “normal” as we adjust to the oft-mentioned “new normal”, and we do not yet know what the future holds. You may be grieving the loss of face-to-face social connection, a sense of safety, financial security, or—even worse—the loss of loved ones. You are not alone.

Do you want to truly know and understand yourself? Do you need to heal from old traumas that are impacting your ability to have the relationships you want and need? Are you grieving the loss of a loved one, thinking you're falling behind because our society utterly fails at supporting people through grief and loss? Do you worry all the time? I can help.
Do you struggle feeling authentic? Sometimes it feels like we are wearing a mask in hopes of being accepted by the people in our lives. How much of your time do you spend masking? Do you worry that even a therapist may not understand you and your concerns? I want you to know that I am open, welcoming, affirming, Body Positive, Sex Positive, Polyamorous/Ethical Non-Monogamy Positive, and Kink/BDSM Positive! I believe in radical acceptance. I am a Queer, cisgender Woman and would like to help you take off your mask, embrace your true identity, and live life to the fullest! Life can be so much better!

Hello and welcome! I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who is dedicated to helping my clients develop a more compassionate relationship with themselves so they can feel less overwhelmed, connect to their inner resilience, and find clarity and deeper meaning in their lives. My clients often seek therapy when they feel anxious, depressed, burnt-out, or uncertain about how to move forward in their current life circumstances. They may be asking themselves “What now?” in the face of grief and loss, the management of a chronic illness, navigating a major life transition, or any time life is not going “as planned.”

I specialize in treating anxiety and depression, trauma, adjustment issues, acute stress, identity issues including sexual orientation concerns, family of origin issues, interpersonal conflicts including dating, relationship and marital problems, and grief and loss.
I am genuine with my clients, and prioritize developing a relationship in which they feel consistently supported and challenged. I have been practicing short and long-term therapy since 2006, and work collaboratively with my clients to guide them to a better understanding of the presenting issue, to highlight their strengths and resources, and to help them to identify other ways of approaching complex problems. Psychotherapy can be the first step towards developing insight into our problems, allowing for symptom relief and for creating more possibilities for meaningful experiences in our lives.

Accepting New Clients. Authentic, respectful, accepting: I offer a therapeutic relationship and evidence-based treatment to help you live your best life. I believe that unresolved issues and problems have the power to control the direction of our lives and cause real pain. This pain can take the form of depression, anxiety, trouble regulating emotion, sleep problems and poor self esteem. Problems in relationships as well as coming to terms with loss can often be the hardest ones. Difficulties at work and questioning career choice are other important areas of our life that can be negatively effected.

Often the hardest part of solving problems is finding the right person to help you. Since therapy can be an exciting, challenging, and at times a daunting process, it is important to know that you are working with a therapist who is experienced with the issues you are struggling with.

Asking for assistance is a sign of strength. Stress, anxiety, unresolved sadness & loss, relationship concerns, & difficulty relaxing are some of experiences that adults, adolescents and children encounter in their daily lives. If these areas are ongoing and not adequately resolved, they can be exhausting and the person's emotional & physical health, and overall quality of life may be negatively affected. Counseling can assist in helping reduce, and enhance coping with, the negative emotional effects of these and other presenting issues. Presenting personal concerns are listened to & clarified. Underlying issues, problem solving & coping solutions are explored within a confidential, caring, supportive and hopeful atmosphere.

I have a depth of understanding and experience in working with people through the transitions that grief demands, and with trauma.
People seek therapy because of the challenges that come to them through times of transition. If you want to focus on healing without having to worry about a third party monitoring your personal struggles and demanding a diagnosis, I am happy to partner with you directly, creating terms that we negotiate together. Healing is likely the most important task that you'll tend to in your adult life. I will guide you in that process without pathologizing or labeling you. Becoming the fullest expression of yourself is a worthwhile and deeply personal task, not to be compromised by political systems.

A happy and secure marriage is wonderful, and can be tough to maintain. Keeping your relationship solid during a really difficult season in life is even harder. So many couples struggle to stay connected when they're going through something difficult: trying to have a baby, adjusting to parenthood, job changes, financial stressors, grief, or health issues. Other couples find themselves simply drifting apart: they're not sure when things changed, but one day they looked up and realized their communication sucks and they barely spend time together. And when this happens, so many couples don't know what to do or how to reconnect.

In addition to anxiety, I work with clients experiencing depression, grief, and ADHD.
Anxiety is something all of us have experienced, but for some it can be very debilitating. Whether it's worrying about what others think about you, fear of having a panic attack, or engaging in OCD-related rituals, anxiety can be difficult to manage alone. Therapy offers an opportunity to learn about the nature of anxiety - how it impacts our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. By developing a deeper understanding, we can learn how to cope with anxiety while still pursuing our goals.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
