I also love working with individuals who have experienced grief or loss – especially sudden loss.
I'm passionate about working with adults with active substance use issues, in new or long-term recovery, or experiencing grief or loss. I'm a licensed therapist and a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS). I have specialized training in substance abuse treatment with many years of experience. I welcome clients who want to explore whether or not the problematic behavior meets criteria for “addiction". I believe addiction induces much shame that individuals will need to recover from due to the damage addiction has caused in their lives physically, socially, and emotionally.

I have worked with clients struggling with depression, anxiety, PTSD, personality disorders, existential concerns, death, dying, grief, loss and a myriad of other issues.
There is no need to struggle alone, and yet we often do. Our suffering may appear in many different forms, from depression and anxiety, to relationship issues, substance use and more. It’s time to shed this idea that “we have to have it all together” and allow ourselves be human for a moment. In this honest space, my clients tend to become more in touch with their authentic selves and establish beliefs, values, narratives and take steps towards a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

My passion is to work with those who have struggled with the challenges of life; trauma, addiction, relationship issues, mood disorders, grief, attachment, career issues or any stress contributing to anxiety. They may have sought therapy in the past and have become discouraged, for whatever reason. The foundation of therapy is the therapeutic alliance. When one suffers various disorders, life becomes dull and motivation to live according to one's values instead of one's fears is threatened. It is critical that the therapist be attuned to the worldview of the client to facilitate healing, self acceptance and self compassion.

Navigating grief and healing from trauma can feel utterly overwhelming. In grief, burdens, unresolved concerns, and newfound questions about our own purpose emerge in the wake of our losses. The weight of anxiety intensifies, casting doubt on our sense of self and triggering a quest for peace amidst the turmoil. Grief serves as a profound entry point to our souls, demanding introspection into our selves, relationships, and beliefs. Healing from trauma requires a trusted, experienced guide, to help unravel the wounds of the past, and help guide healing into the future.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
