I work with adults experiencing being human; who are motivated to explore their experiences with grief, loss, identity, life transition, relationships, depression, anxiety, chronic and terminal illness.
Your mental health care is important because you are important. I want you to feel safe to bring your whole self to therapy, and to feel nurtured in the process. Encouraging authenticity, inclusivity, and humor, we will collaborate to establish a foundation of trust and increased awareness. Utilizing psychodynamic, somatic and mindfulness techniques to meet your needs. I know that connecting with a therapist can be a challenge, and I welcome a conversation to explore if working together feels like a good fit. My goal is for all of you to feel welcome.

Practicing psychoanalytically since 2012, I work with patients from a broad range of social, economic, and cultural backgrounds across a comparably broad range of issues ranging from anxiety and body-mediated distress to mourning, melancholia, and existential quandaries regarding work, intimacy, and sex. With a background in Freudian and Feminist theory—as well as literature, music, and the arts—I find therapy most productive and illuminating when it explores not only a person's conscious interests and challenges but their unconscious thoughts as well.

Grief can impact every aspect of life: relationships, behaviors, thoughts and emotions. If you've experienced something that broke your spirit, you can't keep going the way you were before. But major losses and transitions in life can also open up possibilities for big transformations. They can point you towards more meaning, connection and vitality than you've experienced before. If you're stuck in shame, loneliness, fear or doubt that seems immovable, a trauma focused approach to therapy might just be what you need help make a shift.

I specialize in working with adults and young adults who are navigating significant change in their life as well as those facing loss and trauma. The definition and scope of both "loss" and "trauma" are as unique as the individual struggling to move through it; my work honors the unique circumstances each person brings to the therapeutic space while also utilizing methods that are proven to promote growth and reduce emotional distress. If you are struggling with a health or medical trauma, death/other significant loss, or a developmental trauma that is impacting current relationships, you do not need to struggle alone.

I am a trauma and EMDR therapist specializing in PTSD and grief.
Sometimes you wonder: Wasn't I supposed to be happy by now? When did life get so tough? PTSD and trauma make it hard to cope, while depression and anxiety rob you of the joy you deserve in life. There may be loss, and the heavy weight of grief. Or betrayal by a trusted one, such as a parent, friend, or partner. The hurt and shame that often plague survivors can shatter relationships, jobs, and happiness. Lack of understanding by those closest to you leaves you feeling alone and isolated.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
