Do you find yourself feeling lost or confused about who you are? Maybe you're struggling to thrive or even to cope as the world changes around you. Identity struggles, grief, relational challenges, traumatic experiences, health changes, spiritual crises, and other naturally occurring stressors are all potential sources of anxiety that can alter the way we think and feel about ourselves and others in our present moment and moving forward. As a trauma-informed practitioner, I approach each relationship with a person-centered focus, operating holistically through the lens of trauma-informed care, recognizing you as a unique individual.

I have spent years working with women experiencing depression, anxiety, eating concerns, work/career issues, grief and loss, relationship concerns, and difficulty with major life changes.
If you're struggling, you owe it to yourself and those around you - your partner, children, colleagues, friends - to take a step toward change. If you're like many women, you are in a constant balancing act. Whether your struggle is managing the day-to-day stresses of life or a more specific concern, talking with someone who will really listen, getting support, and having help to consider your options can make a tremendous difference.

Has your life as you've known it been shattered, leaving you feeling lonely, broken and at a loss of how to put the pieces back together? Maybe you're consumed with feelings of depression, anxiety, and self doubt, just struggling to keep up with the daily grind. Perhaps you have unresolved trauma that is interfering with your ability to enjoy life in the present. Regardless of what has brought you to this point, you are exhausted from trying to manage it on your own.

I'm not the expert on your life, YOU are. With the perspective of an outside observer and insight born of experience, I seek to help you map out a path to pursue healing and wholeness. I believe that ignoring your heart is as dangerous as following your heart. I instead seek to help you understand what's happening in your heart, so you can explore your inner world and respond out of a place of self-awareness and growth.

As a counselor, I hold the view of myself as a “fellow traveler” with my clients on their healing journey. I believe that the client is the expert in their own life. My role as counselor is to help where needed to navigate rough terrain, explore new paths, identify, and understand what is being experienced, in order to reach the client’s goals. Through an integrative approach, I work alongside clients to make sense of their lived experience and consider new pathways through life as appropriate and desired.

Therapy provides a safe place to increase understanding, to learn how to make positive changes, to resolve problems, to heal from painful situations, or to simply feel better. I believe these things occur best when an individual is in a non-judgemental environment where they are treated with dignity and respect. I strive to provide just that to my clients. I want people to feel relaxed and supported when working with me. Life, with all its challenges, is difficult enough. The therapeutic process should be as easy as possible.

Most of us want to be good people who have our needs met and enjoy our family and friends. Most of us struggle at times to get there. We need a little help: Someone to listen, help us think things through, or to give us some coaching about life and relationships. Or maybe we are in serious trouble and really need professional help. Taking that next step is often scary. For 30 years, Mark has helped 1000s. 85-90% of his clients say they are very satisfied with their counseling. He's genuine, accepting, effective. How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
