When faced with complications or must deal with grief and loss, having someone to talk to one on one or perhaps joining a group session is helpful. Anyone who suffers a loss needs to know you are not alone. The reactions to grief are felt in different ways and no two people are alike.

Are you feeling overwhelmed, frustrated or sad? I understand how tough that can be. After a 23-year marketing career, I made a mid-life career change; deciding what I really felt called to do was helping people with their most significant life challenges. I am ready to assist individuals, couples or families with issues including: stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, abuse and relationship challenges. I am particularly interested in helping people through life transition challenges including: divorce, marriage, job loss, death of a loved one, chronic illness, or challenges related to aging.

My main office is currently in MO but would love to help individuals in Florida struggling with mental health issues via telehealth. Feel like you’re in a constant struggle with worry… low motivation… panic…unpredictable moods.. or with your past? Is the daily struggle dragging down your quality of life like an anchor? Let's talk. I'm here to help you. Many people view therapy as one-sided conversation with little opportunity to experience each other as real people. I want you to know that I am as real as it gets. I want to help you achieve your goals and start living your life where you are excited to wake up every morning.

My main focus is helping clients identify their stressors and learn different methods of coping. While people may share similar experiences, our reactions and perceptions are uniquely our own. Every person's journey is different and can be difficult. I will meet you where you are at emotionally, help you gain the insight to get where you want to be, and then assist in guiding you to get there.

What to do with a difficult child, or with a teen whose behaviors pose real problems. How to keep a job, change one, or stay in school. What to do when identity is unclear, hope is lost, or in a crisis of faith. How to see with a partner a way of love and care. How to act in wisdom. When in need of relief from anxieties or pressures feeling too much to bear, one takes a brave and important step reaching out for qualified help. Working with a mental health professional, one can find integrity and meaning in the midst of pain. One can find healing and hopefulness for facing challenges. One can better understand their life.

Adults&Couples: I sit with adults who feel overwhelmed, stuck, and just not like themselves work through the pain of their past, and the difficulties in their inner and outer worlds so that they can feel at home inside themselves. I want my clients to feel like the life they have is completely aligned with who they are, and who they are, they love being. I work with clients that have experienced trauma, find romantic relationships and feeling safe in them difficult, couples feeling stuck in their same patterns and communication, and people who find themselves overwhelmed with their current day to day.

I help survivors overcome past traumas in order to help them begin to heal. I started my career working in the world of non-profit mental health. It was during this time that I realized that we in the mental health community were often treating the wrong thing, our clients tended to be struggling with Trauma more than anything, but we’d be focused on substance use, depression, and anxiety. This would lead to stagnation, due to the real issues not being addressed. Due to this I focus on the treatment of core issues. I focus on what is holding someone back, and not just the symptoms that are caused by these bigger problems.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
