My top priority is offering the safety and support you need to express the painful thoughts and feelings associated with your loss or stressful life transition.
Asking for help can be incredibly difficult, but I'd like to help change that. For years, my personal mission has been to bring hope to those who are hurting. Are you feeling overwhelmed, stuck, trapped, helpless or lost after a loss? Or maybe you feel anxious, angry, ashamed, stressed, or depressed while navigating a difficult life transition. You don’t have to navigate these feelings alone. I have years of experience guiding people through grief and loss through individual therapy, facilitating support groups, developing bereavement programs, and speaking at seminars, trainings, and events throughout Southeastern Michigan.

I provide individual, marriage and family counseling to youth and adults experiencing problems with, but not limited to, anxiety, depression, grief, sexual abuse, infidelity, behavioral issues.
I take a holistic approach to counseling, evaluating the whole person from both their inner and outer characteristics. I believe both clinical and the spiritual dynamics of therapy go hand and hand, working in conjunction one with the other, it is from this idea that my therapeutic approach derives. I understand everyone may not share this idea or have this understanding, I will provide effective therapy to each case according to its uniqueness and needs. I seek to provide service with clinical professional competence, through a spirit of acceptance, empathy, compassion and respect for those I service.

Even if you believe you already know "everything" there is to understand about your specific circumstances, guess what? There is always another way to look at what you are struggling through. My job is to come up along side you and assist you in recognizing what you need to learn (and then do!)---as well as what you need to let go of (once and for all!). Counseling is a special opportunity to serve others in a manner specific to their background, needs, and interests. Achieving one’s counseling objectives is predicated on my working partnership with clients and their commitment to meet personal, professional, academic, social, or spiritual goals. Sometimes the biggest adversaries to one’s progress are doubts and fears rooted in internal and/or external conflict. These obstacles can slow you down and may even leave you stagnant for a time. I'm here to help you get unstuck and support you through a counseling process that may be challenging but also life changing!

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
