I have a background with recovery, LGBTQ+ identity development, and grief & loss.
You’ve made a courageous step in seeking therapy. Therapy can help us heal and grow, through deep listening and presence. Early life shapes how we create our sense of self, learn boundaries, and tend to feelings. We can decide now how we want to show up for ourselves and others, uncovering skills and beliefs that no longer serve us.

I specialize in relationship issues, depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, trauma, family conflicts, and grief.
I can be helpful to individuals who are wanting to understand themselves better and are invested in their personal growth. Sometimes people are aware of issues that keep showing up, but have been unable to work through them alone. Sometimes a crisis occurs that acts as a catalyst for seeking professional guidance. Often symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and insomnia interfere with enjoyment. Frequently relationships are not working well and support in resolving conflicts and communication skills can be crucial. I have over 30 years experience in helping individuals and couples grow and increase their happiness and well being.

You might feel anxious, or depressed. You want to change but you feel stuck, unable to move forward. Talking to a therapist can help. If you decide to meet with me, my first goal will be to connect with you, and help you feel understood. Working from this connection, I will try to help you understand more of yourself, and know how to change using the therapeutic techniques most appropriate for your characteristics and needs.

I use a blend of therapeutic styles to treat the following: reproductive loss and infertility, miscarriage, postpartum depression/anxiety, grief and loss, life transitions, depression and anxiety.
Making the choice to seek and begin therapy can take a lot of courage, yet it is often the first step towards resolving those issues in our lives that take away from the happiness and fulfillment that we deserve. I strongly feel that effective therapy is dependent on a good fit between a client and clinician where collaboration is encouraged. I believe it is best to tailor my therapeutic approach based on the individual's goals, personality, and lifestyle. It is my priority to create a safe space and nonjudgmental environment where people can gain clarity, self- awarenss, empowerment and overcome personal challenges.

I have developed an excellent 10 session couples group program (3 couples per group/90 minutes) every other week. I have helped save many marriages and relationships. Everyone needs someone to tell their story to. But they also need meaningful listening; a listening that inspires hope and the thrill of being thoroughly understood. These principles have revived individuals of all ages, many cultures and most problems. I have particular success working with loss, anxiety, cross cultural concerns, relationship problems. . . especially as they have been recognized as persistent. . . feelings that have been with you for a long time such as self dislike, persistent conflicts, fears and anxieties that interfere with work, love, life; low self esteem, and the unrelenting pain related to trauma.

I specialize in treating compulsive sexual behavior such as infidelity and pornography, alcohol and drugs and process addictions such as overeating or compulsive buying, criminal behaviors, trauma and anxiety disorders and COVID related grief and loss.
It is written, "Hope is an anchor for the soul, firm and secure." A popular image of an anchor symbolizes safety and stability. Many people - maybe even you - face terrible storms in their lives: addiction, abuse, fear, loss of relationships, joblessness, loneliness and more. In response to life's storms, people turn to compulsive sexual behavior, anger, substance abuse and food to soothe themselves. These "medications" not only do not work, but create chaos in our lives. Other ways of dealing with turmoil include lying, isolation and feelings of shame, guilt and worthlessness. I offer a refuge to chart a new course.

Walk and talk therapy is especially beneficial for those struggling with ADHD, depression, anxiety, stress, insomnia, grief and loss, and trauma.
Imagine seeing squirrels scamper or hearing birds chirping during your therapy session. Or feeling the warm sunshine on your skin and fresh air in your lungs. If being in nature sounds more healing and less intimidating than sitting in an office, then walk and talk therapy may be just what you're looking for! Walking helps the brain to release "feel good" chemicals, helping to alleviate depression and anxiety and reduce stress. Walking decreases negative emotions and promotes mental clarity and positive thinking. It can boost self-esteem, increase energy, improve sleep quality, and allow you to reconnect with the natural world.

An important aspect of any therapeutic relationship is the rapport and ease you have in discussing your issues and concerns with your therapist. I believe the right fit between the client and therapist is in large part a function of the flexibility in approach and ways of intervening with you as an individual client. I see the therapeutic relationship as being a collaborative partnership that is outcome focused in addressing your issues and concerns. The emphasis is on doing what is most effective in moving you toward your desired outcomes in the least amount of time possible.

Everyone experiences difficulties and pain as part of being human. However, when you're in the thick of it, the path forward can seem terrifying, unclear or out of reach. I help clients to connect with their emotional wisdom in order to find clarity and make changes that support their healing.

Through life you may feel as though you are in a constant fight with yourself. Where the history of your battles have not been won, but only suppressed. Overtime they are unknowingly disarmed and you find yourself walking across an unknown terrain that triggers you to fall apart. With this comes the ability to pick up your broken pieces and put them all back together healthily. What is great about being human is the ability to learn and grow.

I’ve focused on providing confidential psychotherapy for men and young men for most of my career because guys in every stage of life need support that’s tailored to their unique concerns. In a typical course of therapy, we might start by identifying your goals and then get an action plan together that might include exploration of past issues and relationships, examining current issues and symptoms, examining your irrational core beliefs, and finally moving toward preparing for the future. Using positive psychology, we’ll identify the many unique strengths you have as a man and then we’ll build upon those strengths.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
