There are times throughout our lives when we feel stuck. Wanting to move forward, out of the darkness and into the light but not knowing how to take that first step and often not having the energy to do so. Sometimes that feeling of being stuck or the heaviness that comes with it, just comes out of nowhere leaving us confused and frustrated. Other times it is because we are moving through some pretty big life changes and we start to doubt ourselves and our worth. You have everything you need within you to heal, to move forward, to start over, and to live the life you you have always dreamed of. Allow me to help lighten your load.

Hi, and welcome. I'm so glad you landed here. I’m Courtnie, a licensed therapist who has always loved the nontraditional approach to therapy. I love to incorporate my own intuitive abilities into my work. Over the last ten years I have been trained extensively in trauma and attachment, it is a passion of mine to work with individuals who have experienced trauma or have insecure attachment styles. Being a mother myself, I also very much enjoy working with moms who are struggling with postpartum disorders or just dealing with the day to day difficulties parenting can bring.

If we are not solving your problems, I am wasting your time. My practice goes far beyond talk therapy, we do work. My counseling is individual, child, adolescent, family, and marital counseling. I accept clients who I believe have the capacity to resolve their own problems with my assistance. I believe that as people become more accepting of themselves, they are more capable of finding happiness and contentment in their lives. I have several years of experience in body image and eating disorders recovery, behavioral addiction recovery, grief, and family system interaction.
I believe counseling should focus on supporting the client in building a life worth living. Only you know what life "fits" you best, but it is helpful to have someone along for that journey, to point out lessons along the way! My goal is to help you identify what in your life keeps you stuck, what roles and values fulfill you, and to minimize the former while maximizing the latter. What kind of life "fits" you? Let's find out! "The shoe that fits one person pinches another; there is no recipe for living that suits all cases." -Carl Jung. www.invisiblethreadcounseling.com

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
