I work with adolescents, adults, couples and families coping with the impact of grief, loss and life transitions including divorce, pet loss, job loss, as well as chronic medical conditions.
One of the greatest issues that people face in their lifetime is how to cope with death and loss due to divorce, chronic health issues, and any major life transitions. Your feelings of grief and loss can be more than you can bear. I offer a supportive and nurturing environment so you can understand those feelings, allow them to be expressed in a safe manner, and help you adapt to the realities of your changed life. I also have had the pleasure of working with couples. We can work together in a nonjudgmental environment to help you build deeper connections with yourself and your partner.

Life is a journey! The past few years have been a whirlwind of emotion with so much loss, change, and uncertainty. Finding a soft place to land and making sense of life and so many unknown feelings can be challenging. Awareness of what you need is the first step, and I will be present, to listen and guide you back to your chosen path. It is never too late to restart or go in a different direction and no one needs to do that alone.

If you have ever been at a loss for what to do or felt stuck in a situation that seemed to have no solution then please know that there is still hope. Regardless if it is complex trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and depression, there is hope. If you have a child with ADHD, ODD or another intellectual disability or have a history of that yourself, there is hope. It is my heart to meet everyone where they are at and to enable them to know that no matter what has happened in their life, no matter the trauma, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm not sure I believe in an Ideal client; I think all clients are Ideal, no matter their life circumstances. Life is like a rollercoaster, and when you're going down, you may need someone to be there and help talk you through it. However, If I had to choose, it would be a client having difficulty with self-esteem, self-worth, and depressive symptoms and needing additional assistance building coping skills but expressing readiness to change.

Young adulthood can be exhausting, between societal and peer pressures, balancing school, work, and social life, and managing family expectations. The last few years have brought even more challenges. All of these challenges teens and young adults face can impact their self-esteem, anxiety, mood, and daily lives. I strive to help my clients to better cope with and recognize emotions; identify connections between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors; and improve relationships in order to live a more peaceful, enjoyable, and meaningful life.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
