"Do you feel that something needs to change? Do you feel worn out from coping with grief or trauma? It can be painful when you are going through this, and it's common to experience other problems like anxiety and depression. Unfortunately, a lot of people develop strategies to avoidance for these problems. In reality, though, this can result in a buildup of repressed emotions, worsening issues long-term and making symptoms more frequent. My focus is on EMDR and Brainspotting. These practices help people’s brains to reprocess specific memories in the proper ways.

Have you come to a place in life where everything feels completely wrong, somewhere between longing and not belonging? Throughout my 20 years in the field of clinical social work, I have learned that healing is not a linear path, and there is no “one size fits all” approach. I specialize in anxiety, depression, ADHD management, shame resilience, negative self talk, family of origin, perfectionism, grief, interpersonal relationship, acculturation, identity development and trauma. I have a special interest in working with multicultural college students, university faculty, and their families.

I am also a climate-aware therapist open to working with climate anxiety and grief.
There are times for many of us when life no longer feels workable. The stress of life changes, work, or study becomes overwhelming. You might feel unable to find connection, joy, or a sense of purpose in your life, frozen by the pain of your past or uncertainty about your future. You withdraw into numbness or despair, caught in patterns that you can’t seem to break and unable to fully connect with the people and the world around you. Perhaps anxious thoughts and behaviors nag and exhaust you, driving you further from the things that you value. It feels like your own mind has become an enemy.

As a therapist, I've worked with thousands of people struggling with transitions, job choices, college-life, grief, trauma, anxiety, depression, and negative behaviors.
Are you trying to figure out where you're going in life? Do you feel aimless in your goals but unsure how to ask for guidance? Or perhaps you're just feeling "a bit off" but you aren't sure if therapy is right for you. This is a hard place to be, especially when things mostly appear "just fine" on the outside. Many people feel this way but don't reach out for help. You could be struggling with anxiety or depression.

I specialize in trauma recovery, stress management, mood disorders, short term problem solving, grief and loss, personality disorders, and learning disabilities.
"I am a firm believer in finding balance between feelings, thoughts, beliefs, and actions. Sometimes what we are dealing with is simply present day stress, needing a safe environment to process and get feedback. Other times events from our past dictate our reactions to today's experiences. This leads to giving our power away and continuing to suffer. I practice cognitive behavioral therapy, as well as other approaches when indicated, always focusing on the client's goals. I am focused on respectful approaches to teaching tools that allow each client's efforts to result in positive impacts throughout their lives."

Feeling disconnected, confused and lost can find its ways of disrupting some of the most important roles in our lives. Our relationships at home and work can begin to feel like they are failing. A multitude of personal and professional circumstances have given me a front row seat to these experiences. Trauma, grief, anxiety, anger, depression and broken relationships. Each can take us farther away from how we want to operate in life. Like a body of waters shoreline, the waters come back to connect. Finding the first step in that connection is hard. I would love to help you start repairing those connections and healing within.

Each life transition or stage can bring a combination of uncertainty and hope. Impactful life transitions include moments of processing loss and dealing with grief. Oftentimes, these moments bring on feelings of hopelessness, sadness, and loneliness. My job is to offer a secure space to help you through these powerful feelings and difficult times. In practicing from a strengths-based or client-centered lens, some of the most profound moments have been guiding clients to discover their resilience, strengths, and abilities to cope with presenting challenges. Clients of all backgrounds and identities are welcome in my practice.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
