Trauma can make you feel like someone has robbed you of your innocence, purpose, sense of belonging, your voice, and ability to feel safe in your own body. You might be searching for a sense of control, but feeling completely powerless. You escape into activities or relationships in order to feel anything at all and other times to make the feelings stop all together. You may have developed parts of yourself in order to survive, but what would life look like if you could shed old scripts and truly live a life that’s worth living?

Making the decision to reach out for help when we’re struggling emotionally can be challenging and even a little scary. For most of us, however, there comes a time when the difficulties we are facing gives us the courage to begin the search for change and healing. Finding the right therapist can be a crucial aspect of this journey. The therapist you select needs to be someone who helps you feel connected, accepted and understood. Clients find me to be warm, compassionate and non-judgmental while creating an effective therapeutic environment.

I specialize in helping clients navigate family and relationship problems, life transitions, traumatic experiences, loss, pregnancy and parenting, and medical conditions they or a family member have.
When we find ourselves held back or stuck in life, it can be difficult to see another way. We may go through the motions of each day, but know deep down that we feel unhappy, anxious, vulnerable, scared, and hurt. Our history, identities, and relationships are key to understanding why we feel stuck, and how we can feel free. I am committed to helping you feel free. Free to be your authentic self, to choose what you want in life, and to let go of or make peace with the things that no longer serve you, so that you can lead a life rich with meaning, love, and growth.

I have comprehensive training and experience working with men and women struggling with complicated grief, depression, anxiety, anger, addiction, personality disorders and traumatic childhood experiences.
All of us experience the feeling of being stuck in some way, perhaps frustrated by challenging life circumstances, discouraged by unfulfilling relationships or just generally stirred up by the vague sense that something is just not working. Through the course of my experience, I have come to believe deeply in the power of the therapeutic relationship and the way in which a collaboration with a thoughtful, compassionate and dedicated therapist can be the catalyst for real change.

Are you facing a new medical diagnosis or grieving the loss of a loved one? These massive changes can leave you feeling isolated, anxious, and unsure of where to turn. You might also feel overwhelmed by all that there is to do now: How do I talk to my children and family? What if work finds out? How will I ever get through this? If you have recently received a chronic, acute, or terminal medical diagnosis, there is the added stress of navigating the medical system and the uncertainty of what is ahead. Eventually, the distress, anxiety, and sadness that comes as a result of these changes can feel all-consuming.

My practice is based on the theory of Analytical Psychology founded by Carl Jung. What this means to me that therapy is not about "fixing" but about "growing" by becoming aware of what is unconscious. Loss, trauma, anxiety, depression. These things happen to all of us sooner or later & like a force of nature, they need to be understood in order to be withstood. My goal is to help people become more conscious to better understand themselves & figure out their personal path through pain and towards individuation. I provide coaching & symptom management for immediate problems while nurturing seismic shifts for lasting change.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
