I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 20 years experience in the area of adult mental health. My approach to therapy emphasizes a genuine presence and warmth. I believe deep listening and presence establish a bond between client and therapist that must be present before theory or technique can be effective. I believe that bearing compassionate witness to others stories can lessen despair, increase trust, and create a safe place for the healing process to begin. I have interest and experience in grief work, persistent anxiety/depression, problems that follow traumatic events or abuse, and helping with life transitions.

The effects of trauma and grief/loss can wreak havoc on lives and often cause anxiety, depression, mood dysregulation, relationship/Intimacy issues and many other problems.
I enjoy working with many types of people and the challenges they are having. The areas of grief and trauma, including the secondary effects, such as anxiety, depression, anger, relationship/trust issues,self-medicating and stagnation are my specialties. I use an eclectic approach to working with my clients, meaning that I like to employ many different styles of counseling into sessions. I approach issues honestly, openly and directly. I have been described as warm, genuine, easy to talk to and dedicated. I view every client in a holistic way. Rather than asking "what's wrong with you?" I ask "what have you been through?"

I have volunteered as a co-facilitator in my church’s grief ministry.
My clients seek my help because they are resilient. Suppose you find yourself stuck in a rut or shopping compulsively to ease pain and disappointment. Come to me spiritually broken, drained, tired, confused, angry, or in a toxic relationship, as we will find ways to heal together. Let me be a part of your village. My clients lived stories have created problems that have caused them to be stuck, but my therapy creates a safe space to re-create and find alternative stories or narratives that affirm positivity and joy. Free yourselves from unwanted pain, get unstuck, and choose joy!

I am a holistic therapist specializing in anxiety, grief/loss, life transitions, trauma resolution, codependence, wellness, self-care and empowerment.
Starting therapy, or beginning again with a new therapist, is a big step. Clients often call me when they realize things are going to change or when traditional talk-therapy has reached its limit. If you are struggling with anxiety, trauma, or grief/loss, things can seem overwhelming. You can reach the other side, with a deeper sense of your purpose and your spiritual nature. If you are spiritually/metaphysically based, if you believe you co-create your reality, if traditional therapy is no longer helping, I understand your unique perspective. My frame of reference is deeply rooted in the synergy of the mind-body-spirit connection.

Through several therapeutic tools such as TFCBT & CBT, I help Adults and Children discover the root causes of their depression, anxiety, trauma, abandonment, grief, and anger.
I'm an Italian – Ghanaian Immigrant and I understand what its like to face uncertainty. At young age I immigrated to the U.S and had to deal with all of life’s curveballs: parental divorce, adjusting to new culture, anxiety, depression, etc. However, I learned what it means to be resilient. Resilience takes vulnerability and courage. It takes believing you will make it out on the other side. I understand what it is like to face life’s pressures and questions: what if I fail, and what if I am not good enough? You feel trapped, you are suffering silently & everyone expects you to be strong. If this is where you are, I am here to help.

There are many different types of losses, including the death of a loved one, loss of a relationship, loss of health or ability due to chronic illness, and even loss of the life you thought you would lead.
Are you struggling to come to terms with a painful loss or changes in your life? Whether it’s the death of a loved one, a serious illness or the burden of caregiving, nothing really prepares us for grief when it arrives. The emotions may feel overwhelming and it’s natural to want to avoid them altogether. For a while you can survive by staying busy and distracting yourself, but these strategies are not sustainable forever. If you already had underlying anxiety or are a parent, grief can feel like just one more thing to manage. Healthy, active grieving is the way forward.

My approach to grief therapy is intertwined with my belief that everyone has a right to grieve any and all losses.
Have you lost a loved one? Are you a new mom struggling to find your identity again? Did a recent break-up leave you wondering if you will ever find joy again? Do people often make you feel as if something is wrong with you because you "aren't over it yet?” Whatever "it" is for you, please know that grief is not linear, and everyone does not grieve the same way. Grief is not just about death; grief is about loss; and loss is something we all experience at some point in our lives. If you feel misunderstood, unheard, or alone in your grief, please allow me to walk along side you on your grief journey.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
