Hi, I’m Celeste Spates. I am a Person-Centered therapist who incorporates elements of CBT, DBT, and holistic body/ mind/ spirit interventions that support my client’s abilities to find the direction that is right for them. I enjoy helping adults, military veterans, trauma survivors, and those who struggle with grief, ADHD, and substance abuse, as they learn to overcome depressive, anxious, disconnected, or trauma-based emotions which impede their progress or push them off the path that is right for them.

Relationships, trauma, loss, life stages, and the daily grind have affected every one of us, but there is healing and a story of reclamation of true self for each of us. Navigating our emotional response to life is tricky and often scary, but we can be empowered to feel victorious in our ability to take care of ourselves. In the context of a safe relationship between therapist and client, insight and re-experiencing life through compassionate eyes enables us to practice compassion for self.

At my core I am a person-centered therapist who sees the relationship between the client and myself as one of the most important aspects of the therapeutic process. I am not only a person-centered therapist, but I am trained in evidenced-based interventions that I employ based on your particular needs. The main modality used in therapy is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which addresses trauma as well as stressful life events such as divorce, job loss and early childhood issues. Kristian graduated from LaGrange College with a BA in Psychology and then pursued Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville. In her career, Kristian provides individual therapy to teens, and adults, as well as family and couples therapy. Kristian specializes in the treatment of: Anxiety, Depression, Grief, Couple Conflicts, Marriage Enrichment, Premarital Counseling, and PTSD. Kristian utilizes client centered, solution focused models of therapy.

Prior to beginning my own private practice, I worked with mental health agencies, residential treatment centers, and various local schools to provide counseling services to those in need.

Upon receiving my undergraduate degree in Psychology from Georgia Southern University, I went on to pursue my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Richmont Graduate University in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I have gained valuable experience and enjoy working with college students and adults of all ages experiencing addiction, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, career concerns, spiritual issues, chronic illness, family of origin issues, and other life transitions.

I love working with children and teens to help them navigate a world that they often do not have control over. In focusing on things in our control, we work to build coping and communication skills that help with relationships at home and school.

Marriage /relationships can be tough and even good marriages can be stressful. With my husband Tom, I work collaboratively with couples experiencing distress & disconnection in their relationships. We work as a husband-wife team and focus on helping couples rebuild & strengthen their emotional bond.
