My experience includes medical social work, counseling and therapy in clinics, as well as bereavement and trauma work.
A Medicare Approved Provider. Also accepting Blue Cross Blue Shield and some others. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and trained to provide counseling and psychotherapy. What is the difference? Counseling is usually for more solution focused needs and can be short term. Psychotherapy is not advise. We explore deeper emotional issues, identify the causes and work toward a better understanding of yourself so that you can move on and develop healthier ways of coping with life and people. I practice CBT which is Cognitive Behavior Therapy: exploring how your thought patterns affect your feelings and behaviors.

I have extensive experience in grief and loss, depression, marital or family strife, PTSD, children's learning/behavioral problems, eating disorders, short/long-term illness, genetic illness, anxiety and phobias.
Many people struggle with issues in their lives and can benefit from meeting with a trained professional. I help my clients identify problems and work toward a solution. Most problems can be solved with proper help and early treatment, which keeps small problems from becoming large ones that then seem unsolvable. I believe that each individual is unique, regardless if the issues are the same they are still different. Because of this belief, I provide an eclectic approach to therapy matching each individual needs with a specific therapuetic approach. If applicable and the client is interested hypno-therapy is available.

Achieving goals becomes easier when they’re meaningful and connected to a reason and purpose — your “why.” When you connect your goal to a “why” a few things happen: You become hyper-focused on the goal by eliminating distractions or other tasks that are not in alignment with your desired outcome. Your vision and ideas become easier to outline, understand, and communicate because you’re intentionally focusing on the reason you want to do something and how it will impact you. It becomes easier to decide what you should and should not be doing because your priorities are connected to a purpose.

Do you sometimes become frustrated and angry because your feelings are constantly not being validated? You have attempted to address the issue but with very little success. When our feelings are constantly ignored, resentment sets in which eventually progresses to emotional issues including early signs of depression and/or anxiety. Throughout my years in practice I have helped many individuals successfully get the acknowledgement and acceptance from others, simply by recognizing and assessing their own emotional reactions.

So many people repeat patterns learned in the past that keep them stuck today-in addictions, negative patterns of thinking and behaving, and unhealthy relationships. Learning how to take charge of my thoughts, actions, and reactions has eliminated many of my self-defeating patterns and has made life much more peaceful, and fun! Let's free your present and your future from your past!

I view therapy as a place to help clients discover their strengths and develop their own personal style in problem solving so that they can reach their full potential. I focus on using research-proven techniques but adjusts these to the clients' needs. I primarily used cognitive-behavioral and client-centered approaches to counsel children, adolescents, adults, and their families.

Sunshine State Counseling Center provides therapeutic behavioral and mental health services to children, adolescent, adults, couples and families. Significant life events can cause stress that might lead to emotional and/or behavioral problems. When these changes are noticed it is helpful to have a professional assess the biological psychological and social functioning of the individual. These assessments are completed with the purpose of identifying present strengths and needs, and together draw a road map to achieve a higher level of functioning.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
