I work with adult individuals and couples in the areas of: grief/loss, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, trauma, relationship issues, co-dependency, overeating/food addiction and other addictions, self-esteem, chronic pain, gay/lesbian issues, mind/body connection.
I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship based on respect and understanding is essential to making positive change and helping individuals gain new insight, a healthier perspective or perhaps more meaning in their lives. In order for an individual to reach their full potential, it is important to uncover reasons they may be "stuck" in unhealthy relationships, addictions, poor self-image or other negative situations or behaviors. Cumulative experience has provided a deeper understanding of how dysfunctional patterns, low self esteem, mental illness and addiction can have an impact on the individual as well as those around them.

I have a particular passion for providing support to those affected by grief and loss, by honoring their unique experience and providing hope for the future.
Hello! I am a Marriage and Family Therapist at Synergy Wellness, LLC. I am compassionately curious and use empathy and humor to help clients feel safe and accepted. As a therapist, I use components of experiential approaches such as Emotionally Focused Therapy, that put emotions and attachment theory at the forefront. I believe that all emotions play an important role in self-understanding, for they serve as messengers that often help uncover unmet needs. Identifying the origin of these primary emotions can help one to better understand themselves and how they are in relationships.

I use mindfulness & Internal Family Systems therapy to help clients resolve their underlying trauma and grief issues that get in the way of having fulfilling lives and relationships. I combine warmth and compassionate listening with teaching clients skills to learn to better manage their feelings, including anxiety and depression, while using breathing, body-centered, and other spiritual principles to help clients heal. Clients will learn to heal themselves and build more satisfying relationships and futures for themselves and their families. The techniques I use apply well to both children and adults to help clients deal with adverse behaviors and addictions.

My work has been helping clients struggling with addiction, trauma, and grief through a relational model to trust in their own resiliency to achieve their goals.
Clients who have worked with me have often struggled from painful experiences that have led to struggling with substances, relationships, and with their mood. Together we have worked towards the ultimate goal of getting a sense of agency back to feel flexible and resilient with whatever life brings next allowing yourself to feel connected to life as it is happening.

Sometimes when life throws us a curve ball, or when we are dealing with a more chronic, ongoing challenge, talking to a therapist can help us see our inner strengths and abilities which can help us successfully navigate through these challenging times. A good therapeutic relationship, one that allows us to be fully ourselves while recognizing our unique potential, creates the optimal conditions for healing. I provide a place where you can feel safe to explore your most difficult feelings, to resolve grief and loss, heal childhood wounds, improve communication, increase self-esteem and develop more satisfying relationships.

The life you had is gone. You've lost someone or something that was important to you. Whether through a death, betrayal, the loss of a relationship or lifestyle, you are forever changed. You are not sure how to move forward. In addition to feeling overwhelmed by sadness and/or guilt, you may be anxious about your future, what it will look like, and the steps you need to take.

In working with me, my hope is that you will feel cared for, seen and understood. My style is warm and empathetic, but I am also very direct and solution-focused. My initial career in the theatre, ignited my interest in what both motivates and challenges us as human beings. Personal loss of great magnitude inspired a new career path for me, helping others navigate change, life transitions, and move toward personal growth and satisfaction in their lives. I love when clients gain self-awareness, improve their interpersonal relationships, reduce or eliminate stress and anxiety, and identify and actualize their goals.

As a society, we are so scared to talk about death and dying, yet it is one of the very things that connects us all and makes us human.
Ready to punch the next person who says “Everything happens for a reason” or “Time heals all wounds”? You know that none of us make it to adulthood without experiencing loss. Everyone is grieving something. But it doesn't stop the crushing weight in your chest first thing in the morning. It also feels like snapping at your kids when you don’t mean to, being extra clumsy, exhausted, numb, or nursing a pervasive brain fog. The grief comes in waves; battering you, crashing into you, knocking you breathless to your knees. You may not see how yet but you will get through this, and I’m here as your guide and support along the way.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
