Not working through grief can have a lasting negative impact on one's ability to experience joy and happiness.
Choosing a therapist to help guide you on your life's journey can be difficult. Congratulations on taking this step! I provide a gentle, challenging approach to guide your journey in identifying, understanding and actualizing your goals. My areas of specialty include trauma and loss, grief work, men's issues and those challenges associated with aging and retirement. I accept most major insurance companies and sliding fees are available if needed.

I have extensive experience in grief work which I see transcends to all areas of need.
As we are all different, so is each therapeutic relationship. Therefore, no one approach works for all. I strive to meet people just as and where they are. We best serve others by seeing them as a whole within the context of their environment. This includes our: mental wellness/ state of mind, physical/ state of body, and spiritual/ state of soul. Together we will explore the relationship between your beliefs, experiences, and the lens in which you see yourself and the world around you. My practice is person-centered and strength-based; providing insight, advocacy, education and encouragement to help people reach their goals.

I specialize in health, aging, grief and loss, and work with young adults, adults, and older adults.
Welcome! I have always aimed to see the good in others and have been genuinely fascinated by the way the human mind works: the way it can spiral out of control in not-so-helpful ways, for sure, but also the way it can persevere through nearly anything, protect us, and help us to create and share wonderful things. The practice of therapy is one that I not only enjoy, but honor and respect, and you will see that in working with me. I have been a licensed clinical social worker since 2013 and have practiced in various settings with many different populations.

Feelings of depression, anxiety, loss or unexpected life circumstances oftentimes have a crushing way of throwing one off balance. At an emotionally vulnerable time, it may seem even more challenging to take care of oneself and to seek help through therapy. In a safe, empathic, compassionate, and non-judgmental environment, I provide sensitive psychotherapy to adults and couples. I believe that by working with people to help them recognize the origin of their emotional distress will allow them to pull on their strengths to overcome these challenges and gain a deeper level of personal insight.

Sometimes when life throws us a curve ball, or when we are dealing with a more chronic, ongoing challenge, talking to a therapist can help us see our inner strengths and abilities which can help us successfully navigate through these challenging times. A good therapeutic relationship, one that allows us to be fully ourselves while recognizing our unique potential, creates the optimal conditions for healing. I provide a place where you can feel safe to explore your most difficult feelings, to resolve grief and loss, heal childhood wounds, improve communication, increase self-esteem and develop more satisfying relationships.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
