Most of us, if not all of us, come to a point in life where we need to regain our balance and redefine our goals. I know so because I have seen my clients, friends, and myself in such situations. By working together with you, I can help you to focus, mobilize your inner strength and establish new strategies to overcome problems that have become apparent. Topics that I handle (but I am not restricted to) are grief and trauma coping, relationship or family issues, anger management, and cultural or generational conflicts.

Although I can address a wide range of problems, my special interest and expertise focus on those who are struggling to manage anxiety, depression, grief/loss/abandonment issues, addictions and life transitions.
I am a licensed psychotherapist focused on working with adults and elders (65+). I work with clients to help them be better able to manage life's challenges, increase self esteem and improve communication skills. In my work, I favor a holistic approach, where all aspects of the person - mental, emotional, behavioral, physical - are addressed, and I employ a blend of psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral and mindfulness methods, to enable people to learn to shift their thinking, change their behavior, and live in the present with a more balanced life, and a deeper sense of well being.

You were born with innate potential and natural abilities, yet it may be easy to forget your personal power if you struggle with depression, anxiety, grief, relationship issues, or overwhelmingly stressful life situations. Allow me to help gently guide you back to a sense of empowerment and together we can work on shifting your focus toward the personal strengths that give you energy. I am active in giving support and feedback and I will compassionately challenge beliefs and actions that no longer work for you. I believe you can change the way you think about painful experiences; seeing them instead, as transformative opportunities.

We all want to live our best life possible with joy and vitality. Sometimes physical, emotional, psychological, or other limitations make it challenging to do so. Recovering from the setbacks and losses of the coronavirus pandemic has been difficult for some people facing the ongoing impact of long Covid or the grief of losing loved ones. The hostile political climate and wars around the world create even greater unrest, anxiety, and a lack of safety. You want to get back on track and need a partner to walk with you through this. It isn’t too late. I trust that we will get through whatever you are facing together. You are not alone.

I specialize in trauma, grief and loss, and addiction.
There is really no issue to big or too small to bring to therapy. I have seen people go through so much positive change because of their work in therapy and think it is such an awesome process. Just because we can go through life in survival mode and bouncing off our ups and downs, does not mean we should. I love to talk about everything therapy, so I encourage people to reach out.

Many of us haven't had much experience with the kind of truly supportive relationships that make healing possible. A good therapeutic relationship - one that allows us to be fully ourselves while recognizing our unique potential - creates the optimal conditions for healing. I provide a place where you can feel safe to explore your most difficult feelings, to work through grief and loss, heal childhood wounds, relieve depression and anxiety, improve communication, increase self-esteem and develop more satisfying relationships. I work with individuals, couples, and groups, and I'm available for both in-person and virtual sessions.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
