Regardless of your suffering, there is a way through it and because we each have our own way of processing emotional wounds, I take an individualized approach to help you transform pain into healing. I specialize in addressing trauma and grief. This includes the loss of a loved one, traumatic loss (event-related, developmental), as well as psychological symptoms associated with chronic and terminal illness. Through an integrated approach, my work is about healing the soul and finding light in the darkness despite facing life-threatening conditions afflicting the body, mind, heart, and spirit.

I take a systemic, whole-person in-context view to my work. My approach is not one-size-fits-all, rather, we build our plan of care together. Your input on how we work together and where we go with that work is a huge part of the process. I openly acknowledge the inherent power dynamic in the therapeutic relationship, and work to shift that into true relational work - we work as a team. I strive to help you discover your innate capacity to heal, to grow, and am explicit about the methods I use in session to help bring about this capacity. Consent and open dialogue are essential to our work together.

I work with clients who are struggling with depression, grief and loss, anxiety, women's issues, life transitions, stress, and spiritual issues.
Many of us are experiencing increased anxiety and depression due to the current pandemic, climate changes and other stressors. Perhaps you are feeling disconnected from yourself and life. Let me help you reconnect and come home to yourself and your inner resources. My work is an integrative, holistic and collaborative exploration of my clients experiences and issues. I have found that profound growth and transformation can occur within a safe and nurturing environment. I work with women who are experiencing depression, grief and loss, anxiety, life transitions and relational issues. I also work with children ages 3 to 12.

I work with people going through life transitions, voluntary or involuntary, that relate to work, relationships, loss, or traumas and that are causing personal distress in a variety of ways.
We cannot get through life without difficult times. None of us can. Whether it's a family conflict, career predicament, or personal trauma we are going to experience them. And, yet, how we handle them can make all the difference in our future and the future of those we love. I have been doing psychotherapy for a long time, both with individuals and with couples, and hope I have developed an ability to help manage these life situations. I work with people in both short-term crisis situations and longer-term therapy contexts, from their teens to their nineties.

For women, men, and couples midlife and long term infertility are life stages that can be filled with grief, confusion, transition and lack of control. My clients come to me saying, “I’m not who I used to be, and I’m not sure who I am now. Don't know how we can move forward.” I am passionate about people in their 40’s and 50’s because I believe that a “third act” is lying just ahead. It’s a stage in life that can be fulfilling, exciting and meaningful. It just doesn't always feel that way.

I've had a spiritual near-death experience and lost my beloved mother to Cancer so I know what pain feels like.
I'm a BIPOC therapist who understands cultural humility. I recognize that you may be navigating a crisis & seeking support. You may be starting to doubt yourself & feel your inner light dimming. My name means "Light" so let's illuminate our path and light our darkest hour. I believe that therapy is a journey which requires a safe container. I draw from personal experiences to offer therapy rooted in holistic principles. Our conversations will integrate mindfulness, spirituality, psychoanalysis, gestalt & CBT. I believe we are all destined to radiate our light in this world so let's turn your 'mess' into 'your message'.

I've also worked with adults struggling with symptoms of anxiety, depression, grief, and disturbing memories of traumatic experiences.
I love my role as a therapist because I witness times of transformation and realization of one's potential to heal and recover from emotional distress. My genuine, non-judgmental, straightforward, and compassionate personality influences greatly my approach to therapy. Together we will build a therapeutic alliance of honesty, respect, and empathy. I am not an expert on your life. The magic comes from building a therapeutic alliance based on honesty, respect, and empathy where you will feel safe and empowered to explore your own solutions and gain a sense of control over your own thoughts, behaviors, and feelings.

If you are experiencing anxiety, relationship or work stress, or struggling to find understanding and acceptance with a loss or life transition, you do not have to keep going it alone. Difficult experiences can bring up painful and uncomfortable thoughts and feelings that can leave us overwhelmed or blocked.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
