In addition to EMDR I have special training in the area of trauma, grief and loss, working with parents of young children, families with children with special needs and helping parents become the best parents they can be.
Life can be challenging and we all have experienced loss, disappointments and trauma, both large and small. These may have caused us to feel depressed or anxious or lead to feeling of inadequacy. In order to overcome these self- defeating, life - limiting thoughts and feelings, and to grow emotionally, we all need a guiding hand to teach us how to heal and grow. My goal is to provide you with that guiding hand within a safe, respectful and nurturing environment, where you are free to express your feelings

I am particularly interested in life transitions including, but not limited to perinatal, postpartum, parenting, elderly/aging, premarital, and grief and loss concerns.
I believe in working with children, teens, and adults through a combination of guidance and direction. Therapy can involve relieving stress in family relationships and improvement in overall quality of life for those in treatment. A lot of time and energy are spent with all other aspects in life, why wouldn't we invest growth and enrichment with our loved ones?

I have experience working with a variety of issues, including grief & loss, end of life, anxiety, mood disorders, trauma, anxiety, and a variety of relational dynamics.
I believe that your voice and expertise should be held at the same level as mine, so that together, we can create a map of treatment that aligns with who you are and the change you want to see. I value authenticity, empathy, and equality, and strive to uphold these notions in the therapeutic relationship. I also find that a real and honest connection is one of the most powerful vehicles for change, so with that in mind, I enter our work with a great deal of care, humility, and gratitude.

Are you battling anxiety that feels like it holds you back from experiencing a full life? Or perhaps you're dealing with a loss that feels too heavy to hold. Or maybe you're in a relationship that is not turning out quite like you had planned or hoped? Whatever brings you to this page, I'm here to help walk with you. “Your problem is how you are going to spend this one and precious life you have been issued. Whether you're going to spend it trying to look good and creating the illusion that you have power over circumstances, or whether you are going to taste it, enjoy it and find out the truth about who you are.” ― Anne Lamott

I also address life transitions and specialize in grief and loss, care-giving, depression, and issues elevating anxiety.
Everyone needs a safe place and an open non-judgmental environment to express needs, work through issues, and be validated as an individual. Relationships, personal and professional, can define us, support us, overwhelm us, and/or give meaning to our lives. A therapy session is a gift we give ourselves, one of the few times we have permission to elevate our own needs and, in so doing, heal ourselves.

Also, I focus on grief and loss, helping to navigate this heavy journey.
Athletes or professionals, if you or someone you know struggles with anxiety, grief/loss or addiction, let me help! As a former collegiate athlete and current sports enthusiast, there are complexities that an athlete or professional experiences: pressures of in-game performance, managing high stress, season or career ending injuries, or life transitions after sports career ends. All of these can produce intense anxiety, grief/loss and addiction which can cause shameful, intrusive thought patterns. I focus on combating shame by expanding healthy coping strategies, increasing self kindness, and understanding family patterns.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
