I have experience working with a variety of issues, including grief & loss, end of life, anxiety, mood disorders, trauma, anxiety, and a variety of relational dynamics.
I believe that your voice and expertise should be held at the same level as mine, so that together, we can create a map of treatment that aligns with who you are and the change you want to see. I value authenticity, empathy, and equality, and strive to uphold these notions in the therapeutic relationship. I also find that a real and honest connection is one of the most powerful vehicles for change, so with that in mind, I enter our work with a great deal of care, humility, and gratitude.

I am passionate in supporting my clients through these significant and painful life events, such as the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, becoming a parent, moving cross country, or starting a new job. Are you battling anxiety that feels like it holds you back from experiencing a full life? Or perhaps you're dealing with a loss that feels too heavy to hold. Or maybe you're in a relationship that is not turning out quite like you had planned or hoped? Whatever brings you to this page, I'm here to help walk with you. “Your problem is how you are going to spend this one and precious life you have been issued. I provide supportive, compassionate counseling for adults and older adults who are navigating life transitions; living with mental or physical illness; coping with caregiving stressors; grieving the loss of a loved one; and/or dealing with the challenges of aging. I also work with neurodiverse older adults, including people who are autistic and/or living with ADHD or dyslexia. We all need someone to listen without judgment, and to help us through difficult periods in our life. Therapy can also be a means to better understand why we do what we do, and how to reach our goals that may seem out of reach.

Feeling lost, overwhelmed, afraid, or alone? Are the waves of life crashing around you? If you or your loved ones are drowning in the suffering caused by relationship conflict, grief, depression, anxiety, trauma, problem gambling, or substance use, look no further. You are not alone and there is hope! Desperation and suffering brought me to the point of reaching out for help many years ago and soon the seas began to calm. As life came into balance and my spirit healed, guiding others out of the storm into peaceful waters became my mission.

I also have extensive training in parenting issues, perinatal mood issues, and grief and loss.
It takes courage to set up your first therapy appointment, and it can be challenging to find a therapist who "gets you". With a trusted therapist, you can identify your struggles and find ways to overcome them, find importance and meaning in your life, experience healing from bad memories, and communicate better with loved ones. I have worked with clients for 29 years helping people find their clarity and truth. I welcome your call to determine if I'm a good fit for you as a therapist.

When life seems overwhelming and our thoughts and feelings seem unmanageable, we can get stuck. We may feel there is no solution in sight. Whether it’s trauma, or loss, or grief, or certain life stages, and sometimes just routine home, family, work or school pressures—we can feel alone and isolated, like there is no one else who can relate. Finding a therapist when you are feeling this way can help you understand and communicate your needs so that you don’t suffer in silence.

Therapy offers a safe space away from the responsibilities of your daily life, where you can process, recalibrate, and practice new skills. One of my specialties is assisting people in difficult life transitions such as divorce, career change, death of a loved one, or a phase of life transition to name a few. Together, I can help you find some acceptance of the new condition, grieve losses, and find some hope for the new. With couples & families, my goal is to create space for us to slow down, understand the negative cycle you might be stuck in and build in ways of communicating where everyone can feel heard.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
