You’re overwhelmed, overstimulated, and searching for relief, and quite frankly, getting pretty desperate. That "best life" others seem to live feels just beyond reach, with a little progress one day, then sliding all the way back to where you started. It’s exhausting. You logically know you’ve overcome so much, but where is that strength everyone says you have? Together, we can foster compassion for the coping skills you’ve used to survive. These strategies deserve acknowledgment and appreciation because they have kept you alive.

Hello and welcome! My name is Hayl and I'm an LCSW experienced in supporting people from all walks of life in their trauma recovery. Trauma is not merely the external event that happened to you, but rather what happens inside of you as a result of the event that happened to you. Trauma occurs when we have adverse experiences that we are forced to face alone, such as having no secure attachment figure or safe space to process and integrate these experiences. Trauma is a deep psychological wound that deserves attention and care just as any wound does. Together we will embark on a journey to feel safe, secure, and understood.

Have you been going through big changes in your life? Do you feel like you've lost a lot, whether that's a part of yourself or an important relationship? Are you struggling to figure out who you are and what comes next? I'd love to be a part of your honorable journey in figuring out how to support. We are each born into this world filled with curiosity and hope, and unfortunately that doesn't always remain due to the hardships life brings. In my practice I will show up authentically and humbly. You're "weird," you're queer, you were bullied for being nuero-divergent before we had a word for it. You know that this world doesn't fit you, but you were told that you needed to change to fit this world. You've been through it! And, the lack of attunment and understanding from those around you has only led to more trauma.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
