I have been in practice for 32 years. Over time, my work has expanded from exclusive focus on treating adult children of alcoholics, to include- eating disorders, families of bipolar patients, academic underachievement, depression/ anxiety, trauma, and grief. Often these issues are interrelated, and sometimes the singular matter. Women-in-transition groups have also been a mainstay of my practice. Recently, I included hypnotherapy to deepen the experience where appropriate. As the practice continues to grow, I'm reminded daily that it is my life's privilege to work with families and individuals, helping in the growth and healing process.

Sometimes life is overwhelming and we have a challenging time identifying solutions. Depression, anxiety, and grief can make us feel like we are struggling to make it through each day. Do you find yourself encountering the same challenges over and over? Do you feel your thoughts and emotions are limiting your quality of life? Perhaps you are having a difficult time adjusting to a major life transition. Whatever life is handing you, you do not have to navigate it alone.

I provide counseling for challenges around anxiety, depression, grief and relationship issues.
It can be hard to reach out for help and support. Let's face it. In this world today, it is more important than ever to pay attention to our emotional health - for ourselves and for our families. Life demands and experiences can overwhelm and lead us to feel stuck or powerless. We may be feeling anxious or depressed. Our relationships may suffer, and we can feel alone. I understand that this is how you might feel right now. Regardless of what got you here today, positive change is possible.

I work with individuals and couples who feel trapped in self-defeating patterns of anxiety, despair, and anger. This may be related to a traumatic experience or loss. Others may find that these disruptive patterns have always been there but are now making the choice to live life differently - one that feels more genuine and meaningful. Most feel that they are losing control of their own lives and that they are lacking balance in some very important ways. I specialize in interpersonal therapy to treat problems such as trauma, mood disorders, and chronic relationship difficulties.

My areas of focus include grief, loss, and trauma.
I believe we all need help sometimes. Life is a journey, a journey that can be painful to navigate. It is my honor to walk beside you. It makes a difference to have someone that can help hold the burden until you find your own strength. It is my privilege to hold space as you work through trauma, pain, and grief. Transformation is a process, and to have support integrating the pain into the depths of your soul, is a gift of connection. Soul to soul. If you are searching for an advocate and a healer, it is not a coincidence you found me.

I have significant experience working with adolescents and adults whose therapeutic trajectory differ from recent change/loss to intensive suicidal ideation.
Making the decision to attend therapy is difficult for most people. Regardless of what you are struggling with, the decision to ask for help is often very challenging. In reality, this choice is life changing. Life no longer has to be filled with depression, anxiety, traumatic memories, emotional numbing with substances, or coping skills that just seem like they are not working. Sometimes, we just need someone to listen. Collaboratively, we can strengthen your natural skills while implementing new ones. We can overcome the barriers that block you from having the motivation and energy to reach your personal goals.

She specializes in helping individuals reach their goals whether it be optimizing a relationship, a career change, managing grief, or just feeling overall better.
An ideal client would be someone who is empathetic toward others and compassionate toward themselves and is open, coachable, and capable of accepting feedback. The process of therapy takes time and energy so having someone start the process of therapy with an open mind and a willingness to put in the work to see the process through is also helpful. Jennifer also offers clinical supervision to pre-licensed therapists (ASW, AMFT, APCC). In addition to therapy and supervision, she provides consulting to therapists seeking to start or grow their private practice. She's also passionate in counseling other mental health providers.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
