I am a psychologist and a certified Jungian analyst. I have been in private practice since 1979, initially as an MFT, then as a psychologist starting in 1989. I became certified as a Jungian analyst in 2010 after seven years of training at the C.G. Jung Institute in San Francisco. It is my privilege to work with many different people, those coping with uncertainties and ambiguities of life transitions, those who suffer a range of painful symptoms such as anxiety, depression, grief, addictions, trauma, divorce, identity issues, spiritual crisis. I value depth, difference and relationship.

A guiding theme for my work is meeting individuals where they are in life in order to understand the dynamics of their current situation or circumstance. Many of the people that I work with have been involved in the child welfare and or court systems, have experienced tragedy, trauma and experiencing grief, anxiety, or struggling with life stressors. I strive to support clients as they develop creative solutions and tools to improve their quality of life. I use a strengths-based and solution focused approach in working with clients, to identify their strengths, who they are and strategies they can use to be their best self.

I have worked both personally and professionally, with children, teens, families, adults, and those with terminal illnesses. I have facilitated group work focused around Dreams and community-integration, and have a specialization in Ketamine-Assisted Therapy as an adjunct to psychotherapy. While I work with a variety of demographics and backgrounds, I’ve found my work most focused around those suffering from eating disorders, addictions, women’s issues, terminal illness, grief and spiritual emergence. Those whose realities feel tenuous, who want to take back control of their life. Who they are, and who they hope to be.

We bring the entirety of ourselves everyday into the world not in separate parts. Some of these parts may include our past: traumas, conditioning, modeling, grief, anxiety, and maladaptive coping. These parts can show up in our personal, professional and romantic spaces inhibiting us actualizing our most authentic self. We can feel arrested by cycles, patterns or reactions to our past which can continue to resurface and wonder, “Why does this continue to happen to me?” If this sounds familiar and you would like to begin shifting these parts of yourself towards a more whole and authentic self - In.Sight is here to partner with you.

During challenging times, people often feel defeated and focus on what is wrong. I want to shift the focus from what is "not working" to identifying what is "working." We will work to uncover patterns (behavioral, thought beliefs, relationship), that will lead you to making better decisions. I want to offer a safe place to process thoughts and feelings around issues that can be challenging. I am interested in helping people who experience stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief/loss and challenges with relationships (social or romantic). Many conversations are around “adulting” and how to manage life, career, relationships, etc.

Areas of specialty: Depression, anxiety, grief, life transitions, navigating college, 12-step recovery, trauma, spiritual and creative exploration, sports performance, and end of life issues.
There is a crisis of meaning and purpose in our society and far too few communities of support to guide us through the difficulties of modern life. I work with clients using psychodynamic, interpersonal and mindfulness-based approaches to help people move from lives of loneliness and alienation to lives of connection and purpose. Creating a safe and nurturing relationship with my clients is of primary importance in my work.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
