I am accepting new clients. I specialize in addressing grief, disappointment, adjustment to change, and trauma, particularly in early adulthood and midlife. I also love working with men and the unique issues they face. Through the work of therapy, you can learn to express and experience your emotions, build healthy relationships, heal past trauma, process grief, and create meaning and purpose in life. Therapy helps us develop resiliency and hope - the confident expectation that good will come despite the pain of current circumstances.

I specialize in working with people struggling with issues related to: family of origin, depression, sexuality, grief and loss, mortality, relationships, significant life changes, health struggles, and identity formation.
I work with people using a variety of philosophies, but those encompassing humanistic and psychodynamic theories inform most of my practice. This generally means I am most interested in focusing on emotions, insight, relationships, past experiences, meta-emotion, self-worth, authenticity, fantasies, and the unconscious. I rely heavily on discussing shame, vulnerability, emotional needs, and creating meaning in life. I am fairly non-directive, and I will be most focused on helping you find your own authentic path by reflecting and exploring deeper meanings and patterns that arise in our discussions.

I understand the struggle when attempting to cope with transitions, loss, betrayal, changes.
My most curious question is: what do you want? how do you want to be different? How do you want your life to reflect about you, what you care about, what your values are? Therapists should be honest, truthful and direct with clients. I have a commitment to be direct with empathy and compassion to each and every client I work with in my office. Therapy should be solution focused with a clearly defined plan driven by the client. Vague goals, vague results. Today. most clients seeking therapy are seeking relief and understanding within a reasonable period of time. Again, that timeframe should be determined by the client.

I work with topics relating to: exploring and understanding one's identity, unpacking and processing trauma, managing stress and anxiety, and working through grief and loss.
My approach is deeply person-centered, focusing on building resilience and empowering individuals on their ever evolving journey of self discovery to navigate life’s challenges. My background is rooted in community based services, and for the last four years I have worked with survivors of domestic abuse, individuals in crisis and children ages 3+ in various settings. I am a proud feminist and my work is centered around the recognition and subsequent destructing of the harsh systemic realities we find ourselves in. I am here to be your staunch advocate, encourager, and counsel. Together we will learn, unlearn, and grow as necessary.

Do you feel a loss of meaning, pain from a difficult past, or feelings of anxiety and overwhelm? Are you struggling with relationship conflict or renegotiation? When people have experienced complex trauma—whether it is oppression, child abuse, painful relationships, or the struggle of being alive—they often lose trust in themselves and others. Therapy is an opportunity to rebuild trust, redefine your sense of self, choose your values, shift your relationship to the past, create a life of meaning, and build relationship safety. Loss and grief transforms into opportunity and reward.
Finding yourself is a complex and ultimately rewarding journey affecting mind, body and soul. It requires listening to the sadness and confusion when life has become meaningless, depressing, anxiety ridden and overwhelming. Our potential lies in the unconscious with its knowledge. This can be revealed through the Jungian analytical approach aimed at the present distress as it opens to future development. There we discover unknown personality aspects, the limiting attitudes, complexes and patterns working no longer. Their transformation moves us into our more authentic self. From this comes joy, creativity and hope.

My experience has included psychotherapy in a non-profit setting serving a diverse group of clients with anxiety, trauma, depression, stress management, coping skills, self-esteem, grief/loss, LGBTQA+, HIV, stigma, men's issues, and relationships.
We have all faced adversity, distress, anxiety or depression and during these times we can feel overwhelmed and alone. Clients often reminded me that it only takes one courageous step to bring about positive meaningful change. I believe that this is the time that we should reach out courageously for assistance and look for answers to deal with these challenges. I encourage you to take that first step. I meet my clients where they are in the moment and help them in managing their feelings and provide overall emotional support.

Through therapy, you will find more effective ways to cope with the effects of grief, trauma, and relationship issues.
Is it hard to say ‘no’; are you stretched beyond your limit? Does resentment and sadness keep you from feeling connected to people you care about and love? Are your relationships a struggle? If you can answer 'yes' to any of these questions, you may have trouble feeling good about life. When it is hard to ask for what you need, it is really hard to feel happy. Does it seem selfish to want relief or help? When things have gotten to a point where the pain is unbearable, it takes courage to ask for help. The fact that you’re here reading this right now means you are more courageous than you know.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
