Most of my work includes working with creatives, expats, trauma, grief & loss, end of life support, postpartum depression and identity, career-related stress, life transitions, divorce and separation, personal and professional relationships (including non-traditional relationships).
Therapy is learning to use yourself as source for truth. It is my honor to be able to support and guide my clients through this process. I hold the perception that we are all creative beings who are artists of our own lives. I believe that every individual has a unique blueprint and a unique way of living. When we paint with the colors that ignite our truest essence, we become tuned and we attract what is in alignment with us. Yet to do so, we must know and understand ourselves. It is in this impactful space where we can find tremendous healing, growth and elevation.

Life and its problems, past and present, can cause anxiety, depression, and grief. Substance abuse seems like that's the only thing that gets you through the day, but that is temporary and leads to more problems. Feeling safe, connected, and knowing that you will not be judged, leads to honesty and trust. You can share your story and issues that are keeping you stuck. Learning and understanding coping skills in dealing with past issues, understanding the process of grief, and the cycle of substance abuse, will give you an understanding of what has kept you from moving forward. Let's work together to help you understand you,

Grief takes many forms: Relationship, career, role transitions, aging, and health loss, to name a few. Whether someone dies by suicide, illness, accident, or natural circumstances, our world turns upside-down and we feel hopeless, our grief endless. Sometimes there's despair, anxiety, sometimes relief. Sometimes we think of what we could've, would've or should've done. Sometimes we're just numb. Sometimes we (or others) judge that passing time should measure our healing. Grief is individual and personal; there is no right or wrong way to feel. One thing IS certain: We need support, hope and understanding.

I approach each client as a unique individual. Diagnoses suggest empirically validated treatments, but each individual is unique. There is always room for personal growth and creating balance in our lives. I am kind, gentle and honest. I have been practicing in Thousand Oaks, CA for over 15 years. I run a free weekly support group for pregnancy and infant loss sponsored by Hospice of the Conejo. Other support groups I have run are Bereavement Groups for Children and the support group for those who lost their loved ones on the Metrolink train crash.

Through hypnotherapy or Reiki you can find self improvement. Stress relief, weight loss, fears/phobias and letting go of grief are some of the issues I help clients with. I also work in conjunction with doctors to help with medical issues such as pain relief, dentist care, etc. Hypnosis helps you access the larger part of your mind (the subconscious) responsible for automatic behavior. Through suggestions you can achieve transformation by letting go of limiting beliefs. Some clients prefer Japanese Reiki energy sessions which help balance the body mentally, physically and emotionally.

You feel isolated. You don't recognize yourself after this loss. People are telling you things that are more hurtful than helpful. You are not who you were before your loss but you still aren't sure who you are now, or who you will become. You miss your loved one and want to tell others the story of how they died, how important they were to you, and how much this sadness impacts your life but you feel like they don't want to truly listen. You may even take care of others by not talking about your grief when that's all you actually want to do.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
