I approach our work with a critical framework, grief-informed attachment lens, and a relational stance.
I am a second generation Korean-American born and raised on the unceded ancestral lands of the Dxʷdəwʔabš (Duwamish Tribe) and now live as a guest upon Mni Sóta Maḳoce, Dakota homeland. My relational approach is built upon 15+ years working with and alongside individuals, families and communities to nurture growth as an educator, coach, trainer and leader. Becoming a parent in 2014 both broke and broke me open, ushering intergenerational healing and cultural reclamation that continues today. A lifelong learner, I continue to journey along a path towards “Becoming a Good Ancestor” (credit: Layla Saad).

Besides the every-day life struggles, I have worked extensively with people who have been affected mentally, emotionally, and behaviorally by depression, anxiety, relationship/family conflicts, life transitions, divorce, parenting issues, financial strain, work stress, work-life imbalance, homelessness, domestic violence, emotional and sexual trauma, addictions, grief and loss, and family of origin issues.
I truly believe that all human beings have the ability to be mentally well; however, I recognize there are life experiences that can affect the human spirit deeply, guiding you to believe you are damaged, unlovable, or mentally unwell. It is my passion to guide people back to seeing themselves and life through a more positive lens where hope can be awakened and where peace, security, contentment, and joy can be found. I believe all people are affected by life's hardships differently, however we all have one thing in common: the ability to be well.

My journey as a client in therapy began in 2004 after the death of my father from cancer.
I work from a non-judgmental, non-shaming, non-pathologizing perspective. My role is to help clients understand, heal and/or transcend underlying and often unconscious patterns that manifest as addiction, anxiety, depression and so many other complex ways our lives get stuck, stagnate and lose vitality. I am certified in NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM), which is a globally recognized modality for resolving Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD). Through our work together, clients report feeling more ease, freedom and energy to pursue a life that allows stuck energy to move toward growth, wholeness and fulfillment.

Overwhelming self-doubt can surface quickly and powerfully at any age, especially during big changes. A new school or job, personal loss or rejection, living on your own for the first time, can all impact your sense of safety, worthiness and connection. The urge to isolate, to not be a "burden" to others, is common, but being alone in your thoughts just makes it worse. I offer a private space to share your struggles, fears and current coping methods without being met with judgment or an agenda. We will work together to build your sense of self, agency and communication skills, and deeper trust in your ability to navigate change.

You are considering divorce and fear how it will affect your children. Or you're divorced and met someone and want to blend your families, but are worried about the difficulties that blending brings. These family transitions are full of significant challenges such as grief over the breakup of the family, confusion over stepparent roles and responsibilities, hostile co-parenting relationships, jealousy of ex-spouses or stepchildren, and more. You want happy and healthy relationships with partners, exes, children, and stepchildren. You hope for a sense of "we-ness" as a new family unit and crave peace and balance in the future.

I specialize in working with teens 16+ and adults, couples, and families around marriage and divorce, co-parenting, academic, work, career, and financial issues, depression, anxiety, loss and grief, trauma and addictions.
Welcome. I believe we all have the power within us to get to the healing, healthy growth, and development we need. My particular clinical approach is based in humanistic, relational, and family systems theory, and is focused more on human potential than it is on human pathology. Prior to graduate school, I studied widely in philosophy, theology, art, literature, life sciences, and athletic performance, all of which inform my view of human nature, and human existence. What in your life would you like to be better? In our work together, I utilize the collective wisdom of the healing and growth of others to bear on the present moment.

I currently have a waitlist. I value authenticity and candor in my work with clients, and enjoy "real talk." My typical client would say they’re a high achiever, “successful” on paper, and struggle with symptoms of anxiety, perfectionism, depression, low self esteem, or challenges with relationships and boundaries. I work with individuals who have a history of relational trauma or injury, grief and loss, or are navigating life transitions or changes. I work with couples who are dealing with distress within their relationships, difficulty communicating, or are looking to deepen their emotional bond.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
