Welcome! I'm an integrative therapist and work with teens and adults experiencing challenges related to trauma, grief/loss, anxiety, depression, LGBTQIA2+ identities and relationships, and intercultural experiences and family dynamics. It can feel really hard and isolating to navigate these challenges alone, especially in a world in which we're experiencing so much pain, violence, and uncertainty about the future. Working with a therapist can create a caring, compassionate space in your life to explore your inner and outer worlds, nurture your resilience, and cultivate joy and healing.

I specialize in grief and loss, including infertility and divorce, trauma, depression and loneliness, relationship and family issues.
Life doesn’t often go according to our plans. Unmet needs and expectations can leave deep and invisible scars. That doesn’t mean you’re broken, it means you’re human. I work with individuals to increase self-acceptance and self-awareness, build empathy, and improve the quality of their relationships. My hope is to support your journey to express, explore, and discover who you are and who you want to be.

I have over 20 years experience in the field of grief and loss, difficult relationships, and traumatic brain injury.
Every person experiences challenging times in life and making the decision to seek professional counseling can be helpful. These last two years during the pandemic have been particularly hard and have magnified the things that may not be working in our lives. However, I believe, difficult life situations can lead to positive change. I view therapy as a collaborative approach where you, the client, set the goals and I, the therapist, guide you with my professional knowledge in finding solutions, feeling relief, and making a better life.

I provide individual therapy to adults who are coping with various life circumstances including life stage transitions, grief, relationship stress, anxiety and depression.
Sometimes we think of our life as a story with a beginning, middle and end. But life rarely feels this simple and linear. Our experiences change the way we view ourselves and the world around us especially when we endure pain and loss; our identity shifts, and the story we've told gets tangled up. It is normal to become disoriented and scared when we feel ourselves changing. Maybe we seem more lonely, less fulfilled, or lost. I see it as my responsibility to be a partner/guide for you so you feel more oriented, less alone, more able to recognize your innate strengths and ability to heal and to ultimately author a story of growth.

Grief is a natural response to a bereavement or a loss of any kind, but the distress you understandably feel today need not be incapacitating or unnecessarily prolonged. My approach will help you come to terms with your new reality, while retaining a healthy and positive psychological relationship with the loved ones you have cherished, but who are now no longer physically present. We will work together to establish new strategies for living a fulfilling and joyful life - a life that can be continually enriched by the happy memories of times gone by. A life of gratitude, rather than regret.

If you are depressed, anxious, troubled in your relationships, coping with grief, struggling with past or current trauma, feeling hopeless or angry, or just trying to understand yourself better, I'm here to help. I believe we all have the answers we need inside us, but sometimes it takes working with a neutral observer to find those answers. Together you and I will work toward increased understanding of and ways to cope with whatever problems you would like to discuss. Therapy isn't necessarily easy, but it can help.

I work with children, adolescents and adults to teach coping strategies to manage depression, anxiety and bereavement/loss.
As parents, you establish the teaching, training and expectations for your child in the first 7 years of their life. After that, you live out what you set up. Parenting is one of the most rewarding and difficult journeys in a person's life and at times, it may become overwhelming. I provide parenting consultations, as well as, counseling, support and education to new and expectant parents.

I have extensive experience working with life's transitions, anxiety, depression, grief/loss, addictions, and trauma.
I am aware of the potential setbacks and implications of neglected substance abuse, mental health issues, and their impact if left untreated. While working in a variety of settings, I’ve seen first hand how they affect the individual, community, and the immediate family. I am fully committed to advocate for those in need of the highest quality of treatment services. I am a firm believer that when an individual is given the opportunity to tell his/her story and given a chance to heal and develop effective coping skills, they too, can find a road to restoration.

It might mean learning to set boundaries, new coping skills, learning new ways of communicating your needs, working through a loss or life transition - it could be changing a pattern of thoughts and behavior that is keeping you stuck.
Do you struggle with feeling disconnected from yourself and others? Do you put your needs at the bottom of the to-do list? Do you wonder if life should feel somehow better? Happier? Now more than ever, people are feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and uncertain about how they are supposed to manage their relationships, careers, and their lives. Pushing away the need to learn a more effective way to manage your needs can lead to long-term issues for your mind and body. We believe it shouldn’t be so hard to live a better life. At mentalmaptowellness we offer a custom approach for each of our clients.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
