I have been treating individuals for over twenty years. I find that people seek treatment during times of transition and distress. They are smart, educated individuals who are experiencing a difficulty and desire to improve their life. These difficulties often include relationships, careers, life transitions, illness, loss and bereavement.

My specialties include psychological testing, attachment disorders, grief & loss, EDOs, & PTSD.
As a psychologist, my job is to help my patients identify problematic patterns, understand formative relationships, and develop self understanding. The greatest predictor of success in therapy is the therapist-patient relationship and finding a therapist with whom you feel understood and can explore painful issues is crucial. The essence of good therapy is empathy, tactful directness, and a collaborative approach to help people make and internalize changes to improve relationships and impart a sense of well-being. My goal is to create a safe, supportive, non-judgmental space where we can explore the past and create a new future.

All of us face difficult transitions in life. Either negative or positive change can create overwhelming feelings of loss or anxiety. I specialize in helping people cope with the feelings that change can bring. Using a multifaceted approach, people are able to move through obstacles and fears, adapting to change in a more positive way. Treatment of anxiety disorders is a major focus of mine. People are often surprised to learn how much control they can exert over anxiety using cognitive behavioral and other techniques. By using an individualized program of successive steps toward mastery, anxiety loses its power.

I work well with depression, anxiety, loss, and addiction.
People who come to me are often in crisis. They need someone who can listen deeper than words to bring greater understanding, clarity, and perspective. Fear or depression block pathways toward effective change. I bring years of training and practice, personal sensitivity and deep intuition. My goal is to help you release your own potential, unblock energy, so that you have greater awareness and can actualize that new awareness. I've been trained in five different psychoanalytic approaches, depending in part on your situation and location. I offer psychoanalysis in NYS. Call 203-894-9489 for initial phone consultation.

I enjoy helping clients with life transitions, parenting, family dynamics, stuck relationship patterns, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, blended families, post-divorce co-parenting, feelings of isolation, school and peer stress, and career re-entry.
I know it's hard to take that first step. I am a strength-based family-systems-trained therapist who believes, "it is never too late to be what you might have been." I believe that who we are both in and out of relationship is not fixed, and that implementing small steps toward change is both do-able and rewarding. My passion for therapy is grounded in the belief that problems and worry held in isolation grow, whereas voicing them aloud in a safe place and working together with a compassionate and skilled therapist can help reduce them to a manageable size.

I am also trained in treating Perinatal Mood Disorders and Miscarriage and Loss.
Are you feeling overwhelmed by a recent life change? Perhaps it has been slowly building and the constant juggle of competing demands no longer seem sustainable. Change is not easy, however life transitions are often the catalyst for healthy growth. I can help you to unpack the negative thoughts, anxieties, and emotions to discover your triggers and identify patterns. Through this process, clients gain a sense of empowerment to create balance in their lives. The path to inner peace and happiness emerges out of insight and balance.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
