I am able to work with issues related to: grief/loss, depression, anxiety, caregiver/parent support, relationships, trauma, and life changes.
Life can be overwhelming. There are many things to address, or things we want to work on, but we often don’t know where to start. You don’t have to figure out it all out overnight. You don’t have to feel ashamed for being where you are. All you have to focus on is one small thing you can do today to get closer to where you want to be in life. Slowly, one step at a time, you can get there. That one step could be reaching out to a therapist to have non-judgmental support through this process. This is where I can help. I provide a therapeutic space to explore struggles in a relaxed manner.

You’re an over thinker and a deep feeler. You have a habit of putting others first and it's starting to take a toll on your body - Racing thoughts, sleepless nights, dwelling on things from yesterday, that flutter in your belly...You know all the things that should make it better but you feel frozen and unable to take action. Maybe you've tried talk therapy before but you still don’t FEEL different. You’ve been feeling this yuck in your body for a while now and you’re finally ready to do something about it.

The decision to seek counseling is a decision to make change happen in your life! While the idea of counseling can be frightening to a person, the process of counseling is often rewarding and quite meaningful. Whether you are struggling with decisions that need to be made, or a personal behavior you wish to change, or a view on your life circumstances that would benefit from an adjustment, counseling can be helpful and can assist you in changing the path of your life to a more rewarding and joyful one.

Have you ever said, “A part of me feels…but another part feels..."? Does this seem confusing and even lead to difficulties making decisions? Do you ever wonder, "Well, which part is me?!" The answer is, all of them! At times, parts may be wounded and carry painful emotions such as shame and anger, as well as parts that try to control and protect the person from the pain. We all have these different parts. I will invite you to focus on getting to know, understand, and heal wounded parts, restoring balance within the system.

Perhaps you are an incredibly caring person who puts other people’s needs first. You enjoy giving your time and energy towards making others feel happy, and perhaps you’ve been playing on the sidelines in your own life. But, you secretly fear you won’t get love or respect back if you did not do so. So perhaps, you keep doing and giving and playing quietly. Truth is, this depletes you and leaves you not living the life you were truly meant to live. As head of household or business, you feel tired, stressed and perhaps not as happy as you’d like to be. And, you’ve neglected your own needs in mind, body and spirit for some time now.

Working in a variety of settings over many years, I have developed an expertise in many different areas including but not limited to trauma, autism spectrum disorders, developmental transitions, depression, anxiety, parenting, grief, prenatal and postnatal loss, and sexual identity.
Everyday living is not without stressors. How we react to events or interact in relationships can be a struggle as well as puzzling. Why do we feel the way we do? Why do we continue to make the same mistakes over and over again? How can our perceptions be so different from others? How do early experiences impact our perceptions, feelings, and behaviors? I provide a safe, comforting environment for you to explore and reflect on your past and recent experiences, feelings, and relationships. My approach is to facilitate change based on your expressed needs and goals.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
