Adult clients can experience strife or strain in their family life: spouses disagree about raising kids, siblings about caring for elderly parents; cultural, religious, sexual and other values may come into conflict; relations dispute finances; rules and roles can become unworkable; differing communication styles can become dysfunctional; low-contact or no-contact between family members (siblings, parents or grandparents and their adult children and grandchildren) requires establishment, maintenance, reconsideration and/or reconciliation. I work with adults, and not clients under 18 years old. I work with adult family units.
Familial discord can be addressed, even relieved, by sorting out different beliefs and values; assessing injuries like abuse and neglect, and opening paths to heal or manage them. Whether defining distance clearly or reaching for renewed connection, therapy offers a place to have truly our own perceptions, needs, and wishes heard and processed with another.
You are a phone consultation or initial appointment away, with no commitment, from reflection and guidance. Alongside training, I bring life experience, a PhD in Religious Studies, years of teaching and book publishing. My fee is out of pocket. I take Aetna and Regence in Washington (online appointments only). In Portland, I run process groups.
