Much of what I have learned about people, I learned from my dad who was a pastor for 55 years. I too have been in ministry for 30+ years. I see people every day people starving for fulfillment that is lasting and not just "feel good" emotions. Many people have had no foundation in life. They have been kicked from one place to another all of their lives. This causes deep wounds that need to be healed. I seek to "help" bring that healing. I consider my calling as a counselor one of great privilege, honor, and second only to my own family.
There is no doubt that my specialty is working with bipolar clients and their families. It is my specialty by default as I was diagnosed 14 years ago with bp. I sought medical and therapeutic help and now use this disorder as a first hand skill set.
I work in congruence with psychiatrist and general practitioners who prescribe meds for my clients. We help each other in monitoring the behaviors brought about by the right choice in medicine as well as therapy.
