Dr. Peter Panagakis is a Psychologist in North Carolina who has been practicing since 2007. He has a PsyD from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and an MA from Boston University. Dr. Peter first became interested in the field of psychology during high school where he had the joy of being introduced to the field by his favorite teacher. An avid sports fan and athlete, Dr. Peter imagined working in a world where sports and psychology were combined "“ a dream he later achieved through his background in Sports Psychology before realizing that his true passion is for traditional psychotherapy.

I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor and offer counseling to adults, adolescents and couples. I see my work as a collaborative process that maintains focus on your goals, strengths, stage of life as well as hopes for the future. I use a relational, eco-system focus and work to highlight our interconnected nature. I believe that crisis and struggle can provide an opportunity for our innate capacity to heal to come alive. In the therapeutic process I will offer you guidance, and a safe and secure base to undo aloneness and use emotion and attachment as a basis for exploration.

My passion centers on the ways in which early relationships, life experiences and cultural contexts shape our worldviews and impact our choices, coping and performance. I also focus on the interplay between the mind and the physical body, and the ways we can use this connection to increase well-being and overall functioning. Over the past 15 years I have worked in various academic medical institutions and hospitals (UCLA, CHLA), using research-based interventions to guide individuals (children, youth and adults), couples and families in working towards agency, personal growth, positive change, insight, and adaptation to life events.
