I draw from the Gottman Method, CBT, DBT, IFS, and MSC, as well as 14 years of experience as a married partner, parent and educator.
I am a trauma-informed provider supporting couples and individuals navigating grief/loss, conflict, trauma and transition. I am passionate about supporting folks identifying with neurodiversity (eg. eg. autistic, AuDH, diagnosed with ADHD, etc ). Clients I support often struggle with the impact of stories about who they "should be", questioning, "Do I matter?" or shedding pieces of themselves to create a sense of belonging. Understanding our stories is one of the bravest things we can do. Together we can explore yours, identify your values and strengths, and pursue healing and growth.

I use the Gottman Method with couples.
After 27 years as a high school teacher, I followed my long-held interest and returned to school to become a licensed social worker (LMSW) and a substance abuse counselor (CASAC.) I work with clients who are suffering from anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma, substance abuse, ADHD/ADD and I also work with couples. I primarily use CBT, ACT and DBT. Data shows that most people who experience substance use disorders also meet the criteria for a mental health disorder such as depression, anxiety, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (70-80%), or some form of trauma (50%.) Treating substance abuse means treating the whole person.

I am a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist and Gottman Method Couples Therapist.
I am passionate about all things “relationship.” I believe that we are in relationship to everything, all the time. The problem is that no one teaches us how to DO relationships well. We have to learn what makes the patterns in our relationship heathy or harmful. Then we have to do the healthy things… moment after moment after moment to grow our relationships into something beautiful. I have spent many years researching and studying what makes relationships last, what makes them grow and what makes them end. I have developed strategies to help guide you and your partner to be able to grow to your highest relationship potential.

I am trained in the Gottman Method (the gold standard for couples therapy), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).
Navigating life's challenges can feel like traversing a winding road alone, but it doesn't have to be that way. As a therapist, I understand the courage it takes to seek support and the vulnerability that accompanies sharing your innermost thoughts and emotions. My approach to therapy is rooted in empathy, compassion, and a deep respect for your unique journey. Together, we can create a safe space where you can explore your feelings, confront obstacles, and uncover your inherent strength.

I am certified in Imago Therapy, am training to become an AASECT certified sex therapist and am informed in my relational work by Internal Family Systems, Terry Real’s Relational Life Model and The Gottman Method.
Intimate relationships are an opportunity for great love, enrichment of our lives and true partnership. The challenges we face in modern-day society and the lack of training we receive often equate to great difficulties within some of our most important relationships. I love relational work because we have an opportunity to create meaningful, loving and supporting relationships, but only if we have the tools to do so. Imago Relationship Therapy provides tools, a perspective shift and a roadmap. This is courageous work, that can significantly impact yourself, your relationships and those around you.

I offer a safe space for all forms of self-expression for individuals and couples across the sexuality spectrum. Often when we are placed in environments with intense levels of stress, whether this is from relationship issues, anxiety/depression, addiction or other life situations, we hold pain and trauma deep in our bodies. When we are unable to process and release this from our bodies, we become stuck in patterns that are unhealthy. I also specialize in couples therapy, utilizing Gottman Method Techniques as well as Emotionally Focused Therapy, to provide a safe space to explore sexual, relational and life challenges.

There is a universal human need for our stories to be told, heard, and understood. Perhaps your story has painful memories that have caused anxiety, stress, and depression to enter your life. Maybe your family or personal relationships have hurt you and you desire to have healthier relationships. It is my goal to provide you with a safe place to explore and process your past and present stories to access growth, healing, insight, and positive change. As Samwise said to Frodo, “There’s some good in this world, and it’s worth fighting for”- J.R.R. Tolkien.

Gottman Method Therapists

How does the Gottman method work?

One of the core doctrines of the Gottman method is that negative emotions hurt relationships about five times more than positive emotions help them. Thus, couples require five times more positive interactions than negative interactions with each other. The therapist will guide clients on how to improve communication and understanding of each other to manage conflict and have their emotional needs met. The therapist will also advise couples on how to repair relations with each other when conflict arises, and therefore avoid lasting damage.

Is the Gottman method evidence-based?

Yes, this method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy. The method is based on more than 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the psychologists who developed the method. The Gottmans analyzed decades of data to draw conclusions about what types of interactions are likely to lead to specific results, and which interventions are most likely to lead to success. Studies have found that this approach leads to improvements in relationship satisfaction, intimacy, communication skills, and a lower rate of divorce.

How long does the Gottman method take?

The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and an average course of treatment is around 10 sessions. In some cases, such as for couples dealing with a critical problem, the therapist will suggest an intensive course of treatment, with daily sessions over the first two to four days. Treatment is complete when the couple is satisfied and has met the goals they’ve set, and when the therapist believes they have the skills to continue on their own.

Is the Gottman method effective?

Through the Gottman method, couples can achieve changes that are real and sustainable. This treatment has been used for more than 40 years; the method is supported by empirical research, including randomized controlled trials that have demonstrated effectiveness in improving relationship outcomes for couples. Like any talk therapy, success or failure depends in large part on how committed the clients are to making positive changes and working toward results.
