Are you tired of arguing over and over (and over) the same marital issues? Do you feel stuck and "not heard," and alone? Together I can assist you with working towards positive dialogue rather than living in a state of "gridlock." Effective methods of how to communicate "soften start-ups" instead of harshness; methods to decrease defensiveness and criticism. Learning ways to build a friendship with each other again....and being a team in parenting. If it is divorce, I can assist you and your spouse through this difficult process.

Let's be honest, therapy isn't the first choice for most people. If, however, you are in a place where this might seem like a good option, I'd appreciate the opportunity to work with you. Whether it is personal issues or you're having difficulties with your spouse, significant other, parent, or child(ren). Or, maybe you just need some support with a transition in life. I enjoy working with people from all walks and stages of life and while change is up to you, know that I'm willing to be in your corner along the way. In addition to myself, we have a team of 13 other providers ready and wiling to help in any way we can.

What brings you to therapy at this time? An initial question that may take several sessions to answer. Most people don’t realize that as you work toward goals that brought you to therapy, other valuable information comes up that offers insight into your current situation. That information may change your life. The helping process involves assessment, goal setting, treatment, evaluation, and termination. Most of these are happening simultaneously throughout the treatment/recovery process. For example, the assessment phase continues as added information comes up.

Sometimes, we find ourselves buried under challenging life circumstances. When this happens, we are left with three options: remain stuck and undecided, fight through, wounded and bitter, or emerge stronger, wiser and more resilient. I love coming alongside clients who feel they are without hope, and helping them find their inner strengths to emerge resilient. I have experience working with trauma, grief, PTSD, pain management, postpartum depression, chronic medical conditions, OCD, substance use, ADHD, depression, anxiety, bi-polar, and marriage and family issues.

Relationships are the foundation of our lives. Through the quality of our connections with those we care about, we can feel as though we are thriving or they can leave us feeling isolated and alone. Working to strengthen or rebuild connections with others and with ourselves is extremely important to creating a sense of support and acceptance. If our foundation feels secure and safe, we can then allow ourselves to thrive in other areas of our lives. I have special training in relational therapy and how to strengthen these "systems" and the influence they have on our lives.

All of us face challenging events in our lives, and at times need assistance in finding new insights, new perspectives, and new tools to live a satisfying life. When the stories of our lives no longer meet our needs - it is time for each of us to write a new story leveraging the assistance of a trusted counselor.

Waitlist for new clients
Hi there, my name is Candi. One of my favorite quotes about life is by James Baldwin, which says, “Not everything that is faced can be changed but nothing can be changed until it is faced.” Life is too short to let trauma control us, to be anxious, depressed or angry all the time or to struggle alone in relationships. Therapy may not be the most comfortable experience, but it can be life changing. I want you to be able to find meaning and purpose and work through emotional pain so that your self-worth, relationships and other areas of life thrive.

Gottman Method Therapists

How does the Gottman method work?

One of the core doctrines of the Gottman method is that negative emotions hurt relationships about five times more than positive emotions help them. Thus, couples require five times more positive interactions than negative interactions with each other. The therapist will guide clients on how to improve communication and understanding of each other to manage conflict and have their emotional needs met. The therapist will also advise couples on how to repair relations with each other when conflict arises, and therefore avoid lasting damage.

Is the Gottman method evidence-based?

Yes, this method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy. The method is based on more than 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the psychologists who developed the method. The Gottmans analyzed decades of data to draw conclusions about what types of interactions are likely to lead to specific results, and which interventions are most likely to lead to success. Studies have found that this approach leads to improvements in relationship satisfaction, intimacy, communication skills, and a lower rate of divorce.

How long does the Gottman method take?

The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and an average course of treatment is around 10 sessions. In some cases, such as for couples dealing with a critical problem, the therapist will suggest an intensive course of treatment, with daily sessions over the first two to four days. Treatment is complete when the couple is satisfied and has met the goals they’ve set, and when the therapist believes they have the skills to continue on their own.

Is the Gottman method effective?

Through the Gottman method, couples can achieve changes that are real and sustainable. This treatment has been used for more than 40 years; the method is supported by empirical research, including randomized controlled trials that have demonstrated effectiveness in improving relationship outcomes for couples. Like any talk therapy, success or failure depends in large part on how committed the clients are to making positive changes and working toward results.
