Dedicated to helping my clients transform their lives, I create a warm, engaging space to resolve current life challenges while also grappling with long-term emotional issues that may underpin larger problems, such as anxiety or depression. I am collaborative, combining talk therapy with behavioral and cognitive techniques in individual, group and couples sessions. With over 30 years experience, I’m friendly yet direct, empathetic as well as challenging. I work with corporate and nonprofit leaders and professionals from around the world: women, men, gays, lesbians, straights, late 20's+, interracial couples and adoptive parents.

Together we tackle a variety of issues: family crises and complicated relationships as well as shifting careers -- layoffs, promotions, relocations. We develop greater self-esteem and more fulfilling relationships. Therapy is an investment in the quality of life today, tomorrow and throughout a lifetime.

A past president of American Academy of Psychotherapists, I am honored to have been chosen by my peers for inclusion in the Washingtonian magazine’s Best Therapist issue twice: in 2008 for my work with gay men and lesbians, and in 2012 for my expertise in couples therapy. Six weekly, ongoing groups during the mornings, afternoons and evenings.

Gordon Cohen's Groups

Adult Group Therapy

I have four different co-therapists, with groups in the early morning, noontime and evening. These groups are ongoing, experiences, in which members continue the work of psychotherapy, but in a group context. These group experiences become an opportunity for members to speak with one another about their lives. They come to know one another over a long period of time and become deeply involved in each others lives. There is no outside contact between members, which allows the work to develop within a setting in which there is a sense of security, safety and confidentiality.

Group Therapy for Gay Men

I have three different co-therapists, with groups in the early morning, noontime and evening. These groups are ongoing, experiences, in which members continue the work of psychotherapy, but in a group context. These group experiences become an opportunity for gay men to speak with one another about their lives. They come to know one another over a long period of time and become deeply involved in each others lives. There is no outside contact between members, which allows the work to develop within a community of like minded men who have a sense of security, safety and confidentiality.
