I have extensive experience counseling individual adults and children, couples, and families who are struggling with recovery from abuse, trauma, grief, depression, or emotional and behavioral disorders. During counseling, I use different techniques to help individuals explore and better understand their situations and the steps they can take to lead them towards the change they desire. I work with children ages 3-10 in a format called play therapy. During play therapy, I work to understand the child's play and help him learn how to change the way he thinks about, feels toward, and resolves concerns.
Play therapy is also utilized for anger management and the modification of behavioral disorders such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, and autism. In addition, play therapy can help with academic and social development, physical and learning disabilities, and conduct disorders.
My clinical experience includes working at community agencies, a residential treatment center for people with drug and alcohol addictions, a university counseling center, and a head start, elementary, and high school. I have served as an adjunct professor in the counseling program at the University of North Texas.
