I believe that we all have things in life that we need help dealing with or working through. As a counselor I provide a safe, confidential, and nonjudgmental place for people to get the help they are seeking. I use several therapeutic modalities including cognitive behavioral, EMDR, Internal Family Systems, somatic experiencing and emotional focused therapy to name a few. When working with couples I use the Gottman marriage approach as well as the therapies listed above. I may explore with the client their past and present in order to promote self-discovery/awareness that will assist them with the outcome they desire.

I draw from a variety of approaches, including Internal Family Systems (IFS) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).
I consider it my privilege to join individuals and families on their journeys towards wellness! My approach is supportive, collaborative, and often emphasizes development of skills and enhancement of already-present skills (e.g., coping, conflict resolution, parenting). I consider humor an essential ingredient! I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults, in a variety of settings such as outpatient, inpatient, and residential, and have prior experience in CPS and adoption services.

I address Anxiety, Depression, Grief and Parenting issues through a CBT approach and an IFS approach.
Is anxiety or depression holding you back from meeting your goals? I believe individuals need to feel safe and heard in order to heal. My goal is to help you identify your wounds that continue to impact your life. I use an empathetic approach in my practice. No matter what stage of life you are in, it can be life-changing to have someone help you process your experiences and emotions. By processing these wounds, we can work together to establish a healthy sense of self-worth. Whether you are experiencing Grief, Loss of a relationship, Parenting issues, and or challenges in relationships, I would be honored to walk beside you.

I make use of Interpersonal Emotion Focused, Narrative, and Internal Family Systems perspectives in my work with clients.
As human beings, we live and grow and learn in a complex world. At the core of this complexity are the various relationships that we find ourselves in. Relationships with our selves, family members, friends, and communities. Some of these are chosen by us; others are not. Nevertheless, we often find our deepest meaning and deepest difficulties in these relationships. It is in the complex interplay between ourselves and these relationships that we can find ourselves struggling, even suffering. And yet there are strengths and challenges, weaknesses and limits, hope and pain in the midst of this life.

Making the first call is sometimes the hardest part of the therapeutic process. I commend you for your strength and courage in seeking help. One of the most important steps of pursuing counseling is finding a passionate, knowledgeable, and trusting therapist that you feel comfortable with. One that will sit with you through your difficult moments and help you to recognize or remind you of your strength. If a mood disorder is taking control of your life, I can help you to learn how to manage it. If you are experiencing challenges with your significant other(s) I can help you to improve the connection, understanding, and intimacy.

It is of my personal belief that within most of us lies the resources to live a happy life. Unfortunately, things such as trauma, environmental stressors, or a lack of skills can get in the way of our ability to access these resources. Think of the last time you felt an overwhelming sense of peace, whether that be while soaking in a beautiful scenery, or watching children play. This "peace," or what I call "True Self," is within all of us.

Life is ever changing and there are times when we need someone who is impartial and nonjudgmental to help us through. As a licensed counselor I provide that support as well as a safe environment for individuals to express themselves freely and openly without fear of being shamed, embarrassed or criticized for their thoughts and/or feelings. I see many clients with depression and anxiety and have found Cognitive therapy has many benefits. The skill of mindfulness is one that I practice daily and, after teaching the client, encourage them to use it on a daily basis. I am now a registered hypnotherapist so I can now offer hypnosis.

A traumatic event, seen or experienced, can trigger lasting symptoms. You feel them in your body. While you can't quite identify them, you do know that you feel their effects every day. Panic attacks, nightmares, flashbacks, and more. What you may be experiencing are the symptoms of trauma. They might be sudden and intense, ongoing, new, or stemming from childhood. Either way, their effects can be powerful and life-altering. It's true, some people may feel these symptoms and move forward with a peaceful, undisturbed existence. Unfortunately, for you, “peaceful and undisturbed” feels like it left your life long ago.

Family Business is in a league of its own. I help family businesses navigate change (or stagnation) by fostering clear decision-making, and helping clients separate family dynamics from business operations. As a former therapist, I noticed that when my family therapy clients had a family business, therapy would only get them so far... At some point, they had to address the nuts and bolts of operations: "I know I hate this position, but the business would fail if I stopped. But things have GOT to change." Sound familiar? Creating new relationship dynamics and habits means changing how you work together, at home AND the office.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
