I am trained in Emotion-Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and the Gottman method (level 1 & 2).
Life can be wonderful, but it also is full of hardships and struggles. Keeping it all inside often leads to more suffering. One can feel caught in patterns affecting all aspects of their lives, but I know people can grow. Therefore, I provide an environment of support, respect, warmth, and empathy where you are heard and seen. My passion is assisting traumatized and distressed patients in their healing. Common trauma symptoms include anxiety; depression; obsessions; compulsions; physical and emotional distress; difficulty concentrating, sleeping, connecting with others; negative feelings and thoughts; and feeling isolated, alone.

I'm Internal Family Systems trained (not certified), work with theophostic prayer counseling, if you are open to it, and understand just how challenging it can be to heal.
Hearts and life can become complex, and I believe your heart can be set free from all that holds it back and causes it to stumble. I am convinced that your heart is unique and exquisitely beautiful. You have a great destiny and it would be my privilege to help discover what it is. Sound too good to be true? Does your heart feel in pain? Have you been numbing that pain, exploding with anger when you wish you would “hold it in,” or isolating from relationships? Your heart has its reasons for feeling the way it does. Let's begin either in person or via phone or video. I work with couples and individuals.

I draw from several models such as Internal Family Systems, EMDR, Somatic Interventions, and Psychodynamic theory.
As human beings, we are incredibly resilient but weathering the storms of life can be difficult at times without additional support. Counseling can provide an outlet that allows us to explore our pain and gain an understanding of our true Self. I take an integrative, holistic, and trauma-informed approach to counseling. Using a warm and open approach, together we will work to discover the resources you hold within you to promote healing and growth. I have experience working with survivors of both childhood and adult trauma.

I use many modalities in a blended way, such as Internal Family Systems, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Nature Based Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, DBT, Mindfulness, and psycho-education.
Are you looking for help with your relationships, have past trauma, anxiety, depression, or experiencing life transitions or grief? All of these impact how we feel about ourselves and our world, and can leave us feeling emotionally tired. I work with clients to untangle it all, find strengths, unlock stuck relationships, better understand and address anxieties, and practice new ways of thinking and being. Come learn more effective ways to communicate, while using better boundaries. Together, we create change based on new, healthy thoughts and beliefs, build self-esteem, and develop more fulfilling relationships.

I am accepting new clients. Often we seek counseling when we’re not feeling like ourselves. Many people can struggle with the gap between logical knowing, “I know I’m a good person” and emotional experience, “But I don’t feel like I am”. A primary focus of my approach is to close that gap and integrate outdated beliefs and patterns that no longer serve you. I work well with folks who have a foundational understanding of therapy or who have gotten stuck in the talk therapy circuit. I practice Internal Family Systems (IFS), AKA “Parts work”. This process creates more self-leadership, more self-compassion, and deepens clarity.

I am also Certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and focus on Internal Family Systems (IFS).
As we evolve through life, we are faced with challenges and new roles that may make us feel inadequate and uncomfortable. It is not uncommon for a person to feel stuck or lost during this time. For the past 25 years, in an educational and therapeutic setting, I have worked along side adults, and couples/families to help create effective ways to tackle such challenges. When we negatively question our self-worth and strengths, it is time to develop productive ways to break old patterns and see through a truthful lenses.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
