The therapeutic process is a collaborative one which has potential for transformation, heightened self-awareness and a sense of integrated wholeness. I believe the relationship between client and therapist is at the heart of the healing process which is why finding a therapist who is the right fit is essential. In my work I integrate elements of Gestalt therapy, IFS, EMDR and somatic approaches to explore patterns, uncover their origins and address accompanying emotions. I engage my clients through warmth, open-mindedness, direct communication and when fitting, humor.

I am trained in Gestalt, EMDR, and Brainspotting, and frequently utilize parts work in sessions.
I often work with clients who struggle with never feeling good enough. This would surprise people around you as there's a good chance you've found success in life. You excelled academically, have advanced your career, and appear confident to others, but internally you feel different. The drive to perform has been an attempt to finally feel like you are enough. I can help you begin to look at how these patterns were at one time protective, but may no longer fit in your life. We will work together to heal the underlying wounds these patterns are protecting.

I work with a relational, holistic approach using trauma-informed techniques from EFT, IFS and Gestalt Therapy.
I offer my clients a safe, creative space to explore the challenges they're confronting honestly and without judgement. I encourage clients to bring their whole self into sessions; accessing their thinking and feeling self, connecting their mind and their body, and integrating their passion and their purpose. Together, we'll get to know the parts of your multi-faceted inner world, the strong, resilient parts, the angry, grieving, overly-critical parts and the neglected parts longing to be seen and heard. With warm, focused attention, we'll examine the past and envision the future while firmly rooted in the here and now.

As a Gestalt therapist I practice a humanistic and process oriented therapy.
I specialize in helping individuals and couples feel more grounded and successful in their relationships and lives. I believe relationship issues as well as common symptoms like depression and anxiety often stem from habitual patterns of relating that may have historical importance, but may no longer be useful to us. As new issues arise in our lives these habitual patterns and our own vulnerabilities may impact our ability to feel competent and fulfilled.

I practice Relational Gestalt therapy which is a form of counseling that emphasizes the importance of relationships and interactions in shaping a person's experiences and behaviors.
I work with individuals, teens, families, siblings, and couples. I also offer a parent support group. I want to work with anyone wanting to explore themselves and their identity within the context of the family dynamic. I want to help children be able to express their needs and desires to parents. I want siblings to find healing from shared trauma. I want parents and caregivers to feel seen and heard while also helping improve communication with each other and children. Overall, I want to help families heal generational trauma and improve connection.

In therapy, I use several modalities including relational gestalt, narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and somatic awareness techniques.
I believe that each of our lives is an ecosystem, comprised of the interconnecting forces that influence our well-being. This includes our relationships with other people, with cultural and economic forces and even our own bodies. When we are out of balance or suffer trauma, we are often left feeling anxious, depressed or lost. Could you use an ally in making the "ecosystem" of your life more healthy and vibrant? I provide therapy for adults, children, couples, intimate partners and groups.

I have a background in Relational Gestalt and Jungian therapy, both of which we will draw from as we co-create a therapy that supports your growth.
It's hard to find non-stigmatizing mental healthcare and a supportive place to heal. That's why, together, we will collaborate to create a therapy that meets you as you are. I hold an affirming space for marginalized orientations, neurotypes, and relationship styles. We can work to navigate major issues like trauma, grief and life changes, or an ongoing condition like depression or anxiety. I am also passionate about supporting people through their gender journeys. My therapy is not just inclusive, but is LGBTQ+ and neurodiversity affirming. I also enjoy working with couples or relationship groups as they navigate challenges.

I am formally trained in Gestalt, have 400 hrs of yoga training, and offer a modality called Generative Trance.
Becoming the adults and/or partners we want to be is often a transformational and evolutionary process. I support couples with building security, & women and men who are eager to gain deeper self-understanding and reparent themselves, who want to heal from wounds of past relationships and their upbringing, and ultimately live more free. I often work with spiritually inclined folks who are in the self-discovery process and offer existential support, exploring our role in the web of existence and the meaning of being here. I also support folks in the healing process with chronic illness, trauma, binge eating, anxiety, & grief.

My approach is informed by Relational Gestalt therapy and other social and developmental theories to help identify the complex factors that influence your thoughts, emotions and behaviors.
Seeking therapy can feel daunting. Even when we know something has to change, it can feel more comfortable to stick with old habits. Clients are often surprised to hear me say - we keep "bad" habits for good reasons. We develop predictable patterns to feel safe when we lack outside supports to help us feel grounded, connected, accomplished, or hopeful. I support clients to increase their awareness of their own patterns, perceptions, reactions, learned behaviors, and true desires, so they have more choice in how they respond to people and situations and can take steps to build better relationships and more fulfilling lives.

Gestalt Therapists

What is gestalt therapy?

Gestalt therapy is based on the idea that to address unresolved negative feelings, emotions must be not only discussed but also actively expressed in the present moment. The term is from a German word meaning “whole,” and gestalt therapists believe that people should be considered whole entities made up of mind, body, and emotions. Gestalt sessions are rooted in the notion that a client’s total self must be discovered, explored, and confronted, so that they can take greater responsibility for themselves and their behavior, learn to satisfy their own needs while still respecting the needs of others, and reconnect with feelings they might otherwise deny.

How does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy sessions do not just involve talking with a therapist. Clients may take part in role-playing, re-enactment, or artistic exercises like drawing and painting, with the goal of becoming more aware of negative thought patterns that limit happiness. One common gestalt exercise is “the empty chair,” in which a client sits across from an empty chair representing a partner, relative, boss, or a part of themselves—and, with the therapist’s encouragement, improvises a dialog with it. The intention is to bring the emotions raised by past conflicts into the present and work through them in the moment.

How long does gestalt therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for gestalt therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. New patients should understand that it may take some time to become comfortable with gestalt exercises but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions.

Does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy has generally been found to be as effective as other forms of talk therapy in helping people living with anxiety, depression, phobias, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders, as well as helping individuals reduce conflict in relationships. Gestalt techniques, on their own or in combination with other therapies, can also be effective in managing physical ailments including ulcerative colitis, migraines, and back spasms. It should be noted that some people may have trouble adapting to gestalt therapy’s lack of formal structure or to a therapist’s close observations of their body language and emotions; others may struggle to commit to techniques that feel unnatural, like the empty chair exercise.
